Royal Outside, Common Inside: Split-Personality Castle Hits the Market in Colorado

Let’s say you want to live in a castle, but medieval furnishings just aren’t your thing.

A property in Parker, CO, with a bit of a split personality could be the perfect place if $1,275,000 is in the budget.

“The exterior is fabulous and castlelike,” says listing agent Ruth Wordelman, with Front Range Real Estate Professionals. “But the inside is more normal, like a standard single-family home.”

This is the second time she has helped sell the castle. It last changed hands in 2007 for $405,000, according to Realtor.com®.

Wordelman notes that an “eccentric and unique person” built the 4,722-square-foot structure in 1989. At the time, it boasted murals and an aviary inside. Those features are long gone, though.

The curved stairs are a focal point.

Light comes in from the top of the staircase.

Now the winding staircase is the center of attention.

“It flows beautifully from the first level on up,” Wordelman says of the curved stairs, which are topped by a skylight. “When you walk in, you feel like there are lights on everywhere, because natural light just floods the home.”

The library is cozy.

The home has three bedrooms.

The current owner toned things down a bit when she bought the three-bedroom, three-bath residence in 2007. The primary bathroom and kitchen are new, and the primary bedroom has a private deck with great views.

“It’s a house that has limitless potential, but it’s also a very functional amazing property,” Wordelman explains.

She believes the buyer will be someone who is “a visionary that wants to make it their own.”

The backyard has a patio and a woodsy view.

The castle sits on 2.8 acres in an equestrian area with access to community trails.

“The wildlife is fruitful there, lots of deer and things like that,” Wordelman says. “You have land, you have peace, you have trees, you have views.”

Not for everyone

She notes that social media comments about the house are wide ranging.

“I think it’s exciting,” she says. “I’m so glad people are seeing it.”

But some of the negative comments online hurt the owner’s feelings a bit.

“She’s passionate about her home,”Wordelman says. “But when she kept reading, it’s just people’s opinions; and tons of people love it and think it’s amazing.”

The kitchen has been updated.
