A newly renovated mansion on nearly 6.5 acres in Pebble Beach, CA, recently splashed onto the market for $22,750,000.

The steep price tag landed the property on Realtor.com®’s most expensive homes list.

This seven-bedroom estate was built in 1924 and originally designed by architect Clarence Tantau. To celebrate its centennial anniversary, the 8,394-square-foot residence underwent a massive face-lift.

“It’s an incredibly beautiful Mediterranean estate,” says listing agent Tim Allen, of Tim Allen Properties Team/Coldwell Banker Global Luxury. “I grew up in Pebble Beach. It’s a really unique community that was developed in the early 1900s, so there are a lot of iconic properties here. This one is really dear to my heart and has a lot of history. My friend purchased the home in the 1970s, and this is the first time it has been on the market in more than 40 years.”

The historic Spanish Revival home was one of the original residences built in the gated Pebble Beach neighborhood. According to The Wall Street Journal, seller Ann Soske purchased the property with her late husband, attorney Joshua Soske, for just $600,000 four decades ago.

Last month marked the end of a nearly two-year renovation, which paved the way for many modern conveniences. Throughout the process, great care was taken to preserve the dwelling’s history, though.

“The property was a diamond in the rough but needed some improvements,” Allen say. “It was a lot of work undertaken by the family. They needed the necessary approvals to restore it as well, because it’s a historic home. They redid all the infrastructure, put in a full new kitchen and new bathrooms. It has been really fun to work on this.”

Among the significant improvements made to the home’s original details are two updated primary bathrooms and rebuilt patios, where reclaimed flagstone from the home’s original motor court was incorporated. Plus, the spacious kitchen and butler’s pantry areas have been “completely redesigned for the modern lifestyle,” the listing notes.

“This property is quite special,” Allen says. “It is so well built. The walls are double thick, and there are deep-set windows. The roof tile was handmade. Inside, there are big openings with windows and doors, so it gets great light.”

‘Great location’

Allen believes the next buyer will certainly be looking for something special.

“It could be used as a full-time residence or a secondary vacation-type getaway,” he notes. “It’s also within walking distance of The Lodge, and Pebble Beach Equestrian Center is almost next door. You can also keep horses on the lot, so you could really spend hours riding.”

The property comprises two separate parcels and work is in process to “establish four developable parcels.”

“You could do multiple family compounds to move the property forward for generations,” Allen notes. “People who buy these type homes are stewards for generations. Anyone in the world can come here and get a sense of the rich history we have. It’s in a great location, and there really is nothing quite like it.”
