Singer-songwriter Ray LaMontagne and his wife, poet Sarah Sousa, have parted ways with their sprawling Ashfield, MA, estate. The couple recently sold the 104-acre Berkshires property for $4.5 million.

Built in 1811, the six-bedroom, 4.5-bath abode boasts over 10,700 square feet. LaMontagne and Sousa purchased the property more than a decade ago for about $1 million. Last summer, they put it on the market for $5.25 million.

The lucky buyer is getting quite the deal here—the sale includes a main house, three-story barn, stone cottage, two-story carriage house, and an oversized garage.

This address also has a prestigious past. According to Boston Magazine, it was once home to U.S. Ambassador William C. Bullitt, a diplomat under President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

The recently renovated property boasts early 19th-century Federal architecture and 1920s country style, but modern details abound.

The main house has a wraparound porch, picket-fence backyard, and an eye-catching trellis.

Meanwhile, the interior creates the illusion of traveling back in time. There’s a stately fireplace in the living room, dark wood floors, wainscoting, and traditional grid windows.

The great room might be the focal point of the residence, with its soaring ceilings, warm-wood floors, and tall windows. According to Boston.com, LaMontagne used this room as a recording studio.

A spacious library, which can double as a home office, rounds out the first floor. The space offers walls of shelving and a fireplace with a mantle.

Rest comes easily in the home’s cozy bedrooms, adorned with details like fireplaces and molding.

What’s so impressive about this estate is that the space is seemingly endless. The property’s structures feature vaulted ceilings, stone, and glossy hardwood floors.

A three-bay garage, fruit trees, and rolling hills as far as the eye can see are all part of the deal, too.
