The San Francisco 49ers are in search of an elusive sixth Super Bowl trophy. And the team trying to stop them is all too familiar.

Much like your property tax bill, the Kansas City Chiefs have become an annual presence—some might say annoyance. Not much has changed—other than Travis Kelce purchasing a $6 million mansion last October.

Nationwide, Chiefs fatigue soared to an all-time high, and it’s no surprise. As much as we all love a team on the rise, we become weary when the same squad rampages through the playoffs every season. And for those inclined to cast a jaded eye toward the Chiefs, this season’s Taylor Swift storyline pushed matters over the top into truly outlandish territory.

All of which is to say: We’re excited for the 49ers. On their last trip to the big game four years ago, we examined the team’s Bay Area homes. Since 2020, there’s been some roster turnover and interesting off-field maneuvers. While the Niners still proudly lay claim to the San Francisco name, all of the players’ real estate action takes place further south, closer to the team’s headquarters in Santa Clara.

Look no further than the team’s top triumvirate. They all make their home in a relatively sleepy ZIP code that doesn’t get a ton of national attention but consistently ranks as one of the nation’s most expensive places.

Jed York

The 49ers’ owner hasn’t budged from his luxury mansion in Los Altos Hills. And why should he?

Custom built to his specifications in 2015, the 4.5-acre spread high in the hills remains a perfect perch for the 44-year-old boss.

We don’t have any interior shots of York’s home, so an overhead satellite photo will have to suffice. Note the bocce ball court in the upper right corner flanking the pool and the basketball court out front next to the side gate.

Neighbors in this secluded area include a number of tech execs and wealthy venture capitalists. But York isn’t the only Niner in Los Altos Hills, because his coach recently joined him.

Kyle Shanahan

Back in 2020, Shanahan called the posh suburb of Saratoga home. He had purchased a lovely Spanish-style home in the tony town in 2017 for $6.8 million from former NFL quarterback Trent Dilfer.

But prior to the kickoff of the 2023 season, the Niners head coach struck a deal to sell the six-bedroom residence. He also scored a profit in the process, selling the place for $8.4 million.

In a testament to the eternal heat of the Bay Area housing market, Shanahan listed the home for $8,249,000 on Aug. 10—and the deal closed on Aug. 31 at $150,000 above the asking price.

Shanahan most likely sold because a new house he’d built in Los Altos Hills was finally ready for move-in.

It appears the coach spent $5,650,000 in 2021 on a 1-acre parcel about 10 minutes from York’s mansion. The existing four-bedroom home from 1964 was razed, and a new mansion went up in its place. Satellite photos from earlier this year show a large residence on a lot surrounded by construction detritus. We don’t know the exact specs of Shanahan’s new digs, but we’ll assume they’re luxe.

For the off-season, Shanahan keeps a beach house just north of San Diego in the town of Del Mar.

Purchased for $6,175,000 in August 2020, the three-bedroom home is less than the length of a football field away from the sand.

Bursting with beachy vibes, the shingled Cape Cod-style residence looks like a perfect place to celebrate a successful season. Will the coach be toasting a Super Bowl win from his rooftop? Niners fans sure hope so.

John Lynch

Hall of Famer John Lynch formed a dynamic duo with Shanahan after the two joined the Niners in 2017. After his storied playing days, Lynch went into broadcasting and didn’t have any front office experience prior to taking the general manager role in San Francisco. Suffice to say, he’s now ensconced in his exec role and received the elevated title of President of Football Operations last year.

Lynch was a college star at Stanford in the early ’90s, so he was familiar with the Bay Area. Even so, he likely experienced a bit of a shock when confronted with real estate prices. He listed his Colorado home for $3 million in 2017 after taking the Niners job, but he had to spend much more to get a somewhat equivalent residence in the nation’s priciest market.

In April 2018, Lynch picked a five-bedroom home in Los Altos that was over 3,500 square feet smaller than his Colorado digs, but he paid twice as much for the privilege. A deal was sealed for the stately white home close to the Los Altos’ quaint downtown area for $6.8 million.

Brock Purdy

The star quarterback was the last player chosen in the 2022 NFL Draft, so his salary is far from robust by NFL standards. As a result, Purdy made headlines this fall when he told the “Today Show” that he lived modestly in the Bay Area and had one of his offensive linemen as a roommate.

Even so, evidence suggests Purdy and his roomie aren’t exactly sharing a two-bedroom unit near the airport.

We weren’t able to pin down the young QB’s exact location with certainty, but it appears he and his teammate may be renting a large house—also in Los Altos. If we’re right, the single-family house they’re renting runs a hefty $14,000 a month—an amount that seems to be around the going rate for a rental home in Los Altos.

When it comes time for Purdy’s big payday, he’ll likely follow in the savvy footsteps of quarterbacks before him and upgrade to a mansion of his own. Even Patrick Mahomes started small in the real estate arena.

Christian McCaffrey

If Purdy requires inspiration for his dream house, he can just ask his All-Pro running back.

Christian McCaffrey‘s massive mansion in North Carolina is exactly what we’d expect from a wealthy professional athlete. It’s why we’re a little shocked that McCaffrey is parting with the lakefront home.

On the market for $12.5 million, the home known as Grand Lac Chateau comes with a panic room, a fully outfitted home gym, and a theater.

But after a trade from the Carolina Panthers to the Niners in 2022, the ultimate backfield weapon has no need for a Charlotte-area mansion. When we spoke with the real estate agent about the home, she told us McCaffrey’s decision to sell was difficult, given how much he loved the place.

The chateau’s listing comes on the heels of McCaffrey’s successful sale of a penthouse apartment in Charlotte. In September, the star dispensed with a three-bedroom residence in the city’s downtown. The luxe unit atop the Skye Condominiums is nearly 4,000 square feet and is enveloped by an abundance of windows peering out over the city.

McCaffrey purchased the place in the middle of his Panthers stint for $2 million in May 2019. It went on the market in March 2023 with a list price of $3.75 million, before selling six months later for $3 million.

George Kittle

When we last checked in on Kittle, the star tight end owned a relatively modest, four-bedroom home near downtown Nashville. But in October 2020, he leveled up with the purchase of a huge Tennessee ranch.

He discussed the purchase with the “San Jose Mercury News” and talked about how his family was turning one of the barns on the 178-acre property into an “entire, functioning NFL facility” with weights, recovery areas, and tubs.

Kittle bought the enormous spread west of Nashville, in the town of Kingston Springs, for $3,472,660. A modern farmhouse on the property was built in 2017, and is accompanied by a 1-acre pond, creeks, and a pasture. The large property had originally been listed for $4.5 million.

Ray-Ray McCloud

As with Kittle, wide receiver Ray-Ray McCloud makes his main home outside the Bay Area. A native of Tampa, FL, McCloud owns two neighboring homes just north of Tampa in the town of Lutz.

He purchased a 3,896-square foot, four-bedroom home for $579,000 in May 2020.

Previous listing details highlighted the lack of an HOA, along with the spacious kitchen and recent primary-bedroom remodel.

He must have fallen in love with the neighborhood, because he purchased the house next door for $430,000 one month after it hit the market in November 2021. At 1,652 square feet, it’s much smaller than his first home, but it does come with a half-acre lot. We’ll see if he decides to create one large home on the two lots or keep the smaller home intact for guests and family.

Nick Bosa

McCloud isn’t the only native of the Sunshine State to put down roots in Florida. Defensive Player of the Year for 2022, Nick Bosa also opted to buy close to home. In 2020, he spent $1.2 million on a unit in Fort Lauderdale‘s 30 Thirty North Ocean building.

The three-bedroom condo is sleek and chic, with dark wood accents in the kitchen. Atlantic Ocean views light up the plush living room.

Best of all? It’s only about a 15-minute drive down the A1A to his equally talented brother Joey‘s luxurious waterfront home in Fort Lauderdale.

Deebo Samuel

All-Pro wide receiver Deebo Samuel treated himself to a grand mansion in the quiet suburb of Morgan Hill. The town just south of San Jose, CA, has become something of a magnet for 49ers players seeking the quietude of suburbia.

Samuel spent $4.7 million on a nearly 6,000-square-foot home in August 2022. Located in the Borello Ranch subdivision, the home had been on the market for $5 million.

It features an open floor plan, soaring ceilings, and what the listing details called “a million-dollar backyard.” That glorious backyard is highlighted by an enormous pool and patio area, an outdoor kitchen, and a cabana.

Fred Warner

We can’t tell if star linebacker Fred Warner bought his home in San Jose’s popular Willow Glen neighborhood—or if he’s simply renting it out. The brand-new, five-bedroom dwelling was built in 2020, after an older home on the property was demolished.

The modern farmhouse-style residence last sold in December 2021 for $3.8 million. Interior spaces feature 14-foot ceilings, white-oak hardwood flooring, and plenty of windows.

Kyle Juszczyk

Fullback Kyle Juszczyk still owns a mansion in San Jose’s Evergreen neighborhood. He bought the place for $2.7 million in 2017. But he and his designer wife, Kristin Juszczyk, also keep a home on New York’s Long Island.

The pair purchased a four-bedroom Colonial in Massapequa, NY, in 2019 for $1.75 million. The residence was entirely redone after being damaged by superstorm Sandy, and the couple snagged a showpiece that features a new kitchen and water views.

With Kristin’s fashionable NFL-themed designs garnering a ton of publicity—and revenue—the couple might be shopping for an even more luxurious off-season perch after the Super Bowl.
