Over the past few years, “Friends” star Matthew Perry had been downsizing his impressive real estate portfolio, according to the New York Post.

The actor, who was beloved by his many fans, was found dead in the hot tub of the Los Angeles home he purchased three years earlier. He was 54.

In the two years leading up to his death, he had sold about $35 million in luxury real estate and was living in a fairly modest, midcentury modern, ranch-style home.

Perry purchased the renovated home for $6 million in August 2020, according to property records. The house was modest by a movie star’s standards. Measuring 3,200 square feet, it has four bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms and sits on a half-acre in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood. Property taxes were about $75,500 a year.

The star, best known for playing Chandler Bing on “Friends” for 10 seasons, added a raised pool that overlooked the ocean, according to the Post. The home also had floor-to-ceiling windows facing the Pacific coast, oak floors, and two primary suites.

The home was much smaller than his previous lavish residences.

The same month he closed on his new home in Pacific Palisades, Perry listed his “kick-ass Malibu home,” as he called his California beach house on social media. He initially listed the 5,000-square-foot, four-bedroom, 3.5-bathroom home for $14.95 million. He cut the price twice before selling it for $13.1 million in January 2021.

He had purchased the home for $12 million in 2011.

Later in 2021, he sold his 9,300-square-foot “mansion in the sky” penthouse in Los Angeles for $21.6 million. That was a significant discount from its initial $35 million price tag, but still more than the $20 million he paid for it in 2017.

The penthouse stretched across the whole 40th floor of the Wilshire Corridor’s ritzy Century Building. It boasted views of the city and four large terraces.

Rihanna snapped it up for $21 million earlier this year after the penthouse made its way back on the market.

Perry struggled with alcohol and drug addictions that led to health problems, which he detailed in his 2022 memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.” He went to rehab 15 times.

“He had a heart of gold and was doing his best to help others, but there was a loneliness there,” a source told the Post. “He spent most of his days in his home and was very lonely.”
