Pink theme mansion

If a Goth-style castle won’t sell, maybe a Barbie-inspired, pink-hued pad will?

An imaginative seller opted to run with the “Barbie” movie trend, dramatically reimagining her vacation rental property in historic Hudson, WI. The place is now a vivid, rosy shade and is on the market for $1.1 million.

“When the Barbie trend came up, [the owner] said, ‘I need to paint the 2nd Street house pink for Barbie, and I need to theme it Barbie,’” explains listing agent Jenni Martin, with Edina Realty, Inc. – Woodbury. “So that’s exactly what she did.”

Think pink

The seller owns another house and several buildings that are also pink.

“It is her signature color,” Martin says.

The Victorian home has been listed since last summer for $1.1 million.

And if you think you’ve seen this house before, you might be right. The now-pink palace was once a spooky-fun, goth-themed castle.

A year later and still available, the home has changed its identity from haunted to perfectly pretty.

“It was just something she always wanted to do,” Martin says of the owner. “She really loves pink, so this made more sense.”

The changeover was swift and unfolded in the past few weeks.

“I was very surprised,” Martin says with a laugh, admitting she didn’t know the pink paint job was coming. “Anything is possible with this homeowner for sure.”

The 5,611-square-foot home was built in 1900 and has seven bedrooms and three full baths.

The house has two full kitchens, one of which is Barbie-themed.

“The main floor is mostly pink, and the upper level is mostly pink as well,” Martin notes. “The other rooms are darker or more masculine colors.”

The home still serves as a vacation rental, with a hot tub and pool in the backyard. There’s also a family room, movie room, and a primary suite with an en suite bath, walk-in closet, and laundry.

“I think it’s more valuable as a themed [rental] now than it was before,” Martin says. “The perfect buyer would be an investor that wants to continue the [rental] thing. I really, truly believe the way she has it set up is great.”

So much paint

The flexible space could easily go back to being a duplex or single-family home, Martin assures.

“As a single-family home, it could be ready to go probably with a week’s worth of painting,” she estimates, adding that a contractor told her an interior paint job would run about $5,000. “I would assume a single-family buyer would want to paint.”
