It isn’t so much a cabin in the woods as it is a cabin in town.

The 19th-century log home in Bethesda, OH, is listed for a modest $237,000.

This might be the perfect compromise if you love the look of a country cabin, but don’t want to actually live in the country.

This home is just minutes from town, listing agent Lyndsay Maynard, with Harvey Goodman Realtor, says. But it doesn’t feel like it.

“With trees surrounding the property and everything, it’s very private. You can’t really see anyone from the house. It feels like you’re in the middle of nowhere, but you’re just two minutes down the road from a grocery store, gas station, and such,” Maynard says.

The cabin’s interior details harken to a bygone era.

“The rusticness of the original cabin and that some cabinetry, tin ceiling tiles, and countertop were taken from an old historic hardware store located in the same town are really unique and something you don’t see often,” Maynard adds.

Parts of the cabin date to 1820 with an addition made in the early 1980s.

“The [owner] who rebuilt the home and did the big addition stopped by one day to tell the [current owner] the history of the property,” Maynard says.

The log house has two bedrooms and one bathroom in 2,309 square feet of living space.

A bedroom and dining area are part of the original cabin and have log walls and ceilings. The living room, kitchen, bathroom, and other living spaces are part of the addition and have more modern walls, floors, and fixtures.

“The addition was just so tastefully done,” Maynard explains. “The amount of character that is still there and the rustic feel of the porches really surprised me. It’s in great shape and still has that authenticness about it.”

Cabin in the woods

The home sits nestled in the woods on about three-quarters of an acre.

“There are two outbuildings, two garages with one as a workshop. They both have propane heat and electric in them,” she says. “The land has been landscaped with patches of ferns and all kinds of perennials on the property.”

Maynard says the porches on both the front and back are her favorite things about the house.

“You can enjoy the outdoors, and they add so much square footage to the property. I just love a big, covered porch to be able to enjoy our Midwest summer storms.”
