Love castles and cattle? Behold, Castle Oaks Ranch.

High on a hill in Oakdale, CA, sits the regal residence—a local landmark that can’t be overlooked.

“Everyone knows where the castle is,” says listing agent Cydney Mace, with HomeSmart PV & Associates. “If you’re going out in the country, people ask, ‘Is it past the castle or before the castle?’”

The 3,881-square-foot home is listed for $2,890,000.

Castle Oaks Ranch’s builder finished the place in 1987 and lived in it for only a few years. The sellers picked up the property in 1996 and have been there since.

‘Castle characteristics’

“I had always wondered what it looked like and whether it looked like a real castle on the inside,” Mace admits. “It definitely has castle characteristics—like the wrought iron railing—but it does feel very home [-like] and not like you’re in a castle. It feels magical when you walk in.”

The home has three bedrooms and three full bathrooms. The primary suite is on the second floor and offers several unique features.

“There’s a big soaking tub—it’s huge,” Mace says. “It’s so big, and you just step into it. It’s definitely interesting that it’s right in the bedroom.”

A spiral staircase leads from the primary suite’s sitting room to the castle rooftop.

“When you go up there, there’s a 360-degree view of the whole valley, all the way to the Sierra mountains,” Mace notes. “The lookout is really cool. It’s probably one of my favorite spots.”

She notes that the sellers have done a lot of work to the place, and everything is in pristine condition.

Room to roam

As the property’s name suggests, the grounds include ranch land. The castle sits behind a gate on 40 acres, eight of which have irrigation and can be used for cattle grazing.

There’s also a four-stall barn and corrals.

“I think [the buyer] will be someone that enjoys horses,” Mace says. “You can also definitely do some entertaining there.”

The property features a six-car detached garage and a modular home that is set on a nearby knoll.

“Someone could take the modular down and put a second home there, with a second mailing address,” Mace says, adding that it could be family compound.

She notes that there has been a lot of interest in the castle—even from future royals.

“The owner gets letters from little kids who want to go in the castle or be king or queen of the castle,” Mace says.
