Dallas Decadence: Meticulously Renovated $60M Crespi Estate Debuts as the State’s Most Expensive Home

A historic limestone estate in Dallas recently hit the market for $60 million—the state’s most expensive (and extravagant) new listing.

Designed by renowned Swiss architect Maurice Fatio in 1938, the 27,092-square-foot mansion boasts 10 spacious bedrooms and 12.5 bathrooms.

The previous owners meticulously renovated the home with luxury finishes and amenities throughout.

Among them are a 4,800-square-foot recreational complex with a custom-built home theater, as well as a 3,000-square-foot guesthouse with plenty of room to stay, play, and entertain.

“The entire property is stunning,” says listing agent Michelene Galbraith, of Allie Beth Allman & Associates. “There’s something in each space that makes you pause to appreciate the superior craftsmanship and design.”

Restored residence

Known as the Crespi Estate, the property was previously owned by Tom Hicks, former owner of the Texas Rangers baseball team. The property last changed hands in 1998, according to Realtor.com®.

The Hicks family spent three years restoring and improving the luxury estate, which was originally built by the Crespi family in the 1930s, Galbraith says.

“Both the original and updated architectural elements and finishes are irreplaceable,” she notes. “It’s amazing to see. Among them, an 1820s library was purchased in Europe, transported to the United States, and reassembled on site. If you were to try to rebuild this home now, the time and cost to replicate it would be unsurmountable.”

The enormous primary suite alone comprises 3,000 square feet and opens to an expansive terrace that overlooks the pool house and guesthouse.

On the lower level, a media room, safe room, and multiple wine rooms are all accessible via the property’s private elevator.

A fully equipped gym boasts cryotherapy, a massage room, steam room, and a sensory-deprivation float tank added by the sellers.

‘Nothing else like it’

The home sits prominently on 15 acres in the Preston Hollow neighborhood. The property boasts a lighted heliport, a greenhouse, tennis court, and a “country club-size pool,” according to the listing.

“The home is located in the heart of Dallas, near downtown, and sits on more than 15 acres, which is amazing,” Galbraith says. “There are walking trails, a creek, and even a waterfall—all found on property. There’s nothing else like it.”

She believes the estate’s appeal cuts across a variety of prospective buyers, especially those with an eye for architecture and design.

“It’s just such a special property,” Galbraith says. “It would be great for people who love to entertain and appreciate the home’s storied history. It’s an incredible opportunity to own a truly architecturally significant home. What’s not to love?”
