After buying a Florida mansion a few months ago, the Washington Nationals ace Max Scherzer is now ready to part with his gorgeous Virginia home. His modern mansion with Potomac River views in McLean, VA, is now on the market for $15 million.

Scherzer purchased the home in August 2015 for $5.2 million, shortly after signing a seven-year, $210 million contract with the Nationals.

When the pitcher purchased the place, it was a four-bedroom home with 7,160 square feet of space. Five years later, after a dramatic modern makeover, it now has five bedrooms on 8,264 square feet.

The one element that remained constant? The location. According to the listing details, the property, sitting on 3 acres of prime Virginia land, is “perfectly sited above the Brookmont Dam on the Potomac.”

Renovation and reconstruction work was completed in 2017 by a team of “leading architects, builders and designers.”

Contemporary, airy, and modern, the interior spaces are flooded by light from the large windows, which offer exquisite views of the natural surroundings.

The open floor plan features gorgeous wood floors and recessed lighting, with skylights also providing plenty of light. The chef’s gourmet kitchen offers a butler’s pantry, six-stove burner, and large marble countertops.

A spacious family room flows right off the kitchen. The formal dining room area has a glassed-in wine wall to display your favorite vintages.

On the upper level, you’ll find the master suite with views looking onto the river. The suite has a walk-in closet, and the master bathroom offers separate vanities, with a soaking tub and shower.

Luxury amenities include an office, multiple outdoor decks, a rooftop terrace, and an infinity pool that faces the river. It’s designed for entertaining, with space for guests to gather easily both inside and out.

With the Nationals season done, Scherzer is set to enter the final year of his Nats contract in 2021. Now 36, the ace may have one more big payday ahead if he has a stellar season next year.

Earlier this year, he purchased a lavish $9.75 million mansion in Florida, only minutes away from the Nationals’ spring-training facility.

Scherzer is the 35th MLB pitcher to reach 2,500 career strikeouts and has won three Cy Young Awards. In 2019, he helped lead the Nationals to a World Series victory.

Wetherly Barker Hemeon with TTR Sotheby’s International Realty holds the listing.
