Think Thin: New Orleans Skinny House Squeezes Onto the Market for $189K

Just in time for Jazz Fest: A very skinny house makes a bold statement in New Orleans.

The svelte space, which last changed hands in 2021, is available for $189,900. And no doubt about it: It’s small.

“It’s like a tiny house,” says listing agent Lauryn Lansou, with 1 Percent Lists Legacy. “It’s one bed, one bath, tiny little living area, tiny kitchen.”

The listing notes that the newly renovated abode is a “great property for investment.”

Touring the narrow house won’t take long. The home is a compact 234 square feet, on a 405-square-foot lot.

“It feels a little more spacious when you’re inside,” Lansou promises. “The bedroom is upstairs, and everything else is downstairs.”

The adorable abode has been used as a vacation rental.

‘Perfect for summer’

“We call it a unique gem, because it’s just so small, and there are not many homes like that anywhere—especially in New Orleans,” Lansou says, of the petite property. “I like the outside. I like the color. It’s very bright and perfect for summer.”

Lansou says she found information about the property dating back to 1900, but she isn’t completely sure when it was built. She thinks it has always been a standalone, skinny house and not part of another structure.

The diminutive domicile recently went through a renovation, and there aren’t any appliances in the place right now. But Lansou says the seller would be willing to negotiate.

“It feels like a little studio apartment,” she observes. “You know, it’s just big enough for one person, maybe a couple.”

However, the affordable price tag might tempt a buyer who wants to spend time in the Big Easy or take on a rental property.

The buyer is likely to be “somebody wanting to be in the mix of everything in New Orleans, or an investor who was looking to purchase it and make income on the side,” Lansou says.
