Atlanta ranked ninth-best capital to live in

Atlanta was ranked the ninth-best state capital to live in, according to a new WalletHub study.

The analysis compared the nation’s 50 capitals across four key dimensions: affordability, economic well-being, quality of education and health and quality of life. These criteria were then broken down into 49 individual metrics, including cost of living, income inequality, COVID-19 vaccination rates, share of millennial newcomers and crime rate.

WalletHub then calculated each capital’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate its “State Capital Index” and ranked the cities from there.

The top three capitals were Austin, Texas; Raleigh, North Carolina; and Madison, Wisconsin, respectively, while the bottom three were Hartford, Connecticut; Trenton, New Jersey; and Augusta, Maine. Atlanta was ranked seventh by quality of life, ninth by economic well-being, 18th by quality of education and health and 31st by affordability.

These are the top 10 state capitals:

  1. Austin, Texas.
  2. Raleigh, North Carolina.
  3. Madison, Wisconsin.
  4. Boise, Idaho.
  5. Lincoln, Nebraska.
  6. Salt Lake City.
  7. Concord, New Hampshire.
  8. Denver.
  9. Atlanta.
  10. Columbus, Ohio.
