An eight-sided house in Sultan, WA, didn’t have to wait around long for an offer.

The octagonal home angled its way onto the market in December and found a buyer within eight days.

Needless to say, there was plenty of curiosity surrounding the oddity.

“There are rumors that swirl,” says listing agent Angela Nebeker, with John L. Scott Sammamish. “It’s this house behind iron gates, so we’ve had a lot of local community people that have always wanted to come in there and see it.”

The unusual house is listed at $960,000 and has long been surrounded by mystery.

The home’s square footage, for example, is a bit of an enigma. Nebeker says some records indicate the house is 7,384 square feet, while others put it at closer to 10,000.

The home was built in 1987 and needs some work, since it essentially has been abandoned for about two years.

“It feels like a movie set—it’s intriguing to me,” says Nebeker. “… like a house that should be an entertainment house. It reminds me of a place [where] somebody would have parties.”

Nebeker notes that there is a hot tub and pool, which is a bit murky at the moment.

Angular abode

The home has three bedrooms and 3.5 bathrooms—most of which are uniquely shaped, with distinctive flooring, steps, and angles.

“I think the architecture on its own makes it unique and, for me, that’s some of the allure of it,” Nebeker says. “And there’s a lot unknown about it.”

The home sits on more than six acres that will also require attention.

“When you walk the property, there are gardens and raised flower beds—and it has all been neglected,” Nebeker says. “There are rumors that swirl that the homeowner buried gold somewhere on the property and that nobody will ever find it.”

The administrator for the property told Nebeker that the person who built the home started a telecommunications company. It’s a detail that might explain some of the gadgets left behind.

“The house has big old cameras all around it, and none of it works anymore,” she says. “There are telephones all over the walls downstairs.”

The property includes two metal shop buildings with almost 5,000 square feet of space that could be used for work, storage, or as a garage.

Nebeker says a lot of interest led to a quick offer on the home.

“I wish I could have seen it when it was in its prime,” she muses. “I would have loved to have seen this house when all of those things were being used and useful.”

The buyers are interested in bringing the home back to its original condition, Nebeker says.
