Tom Petty‘s three-bedroom beach house in Malibu, CA, is listed for $9,850,000.

Listing agent Chris Cortazzo, of Compass, originally sold the oceanfront compound to the Grammy winner in 2010 for $6.8 million. And he’s back to find its next owner.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the “American Girl” singer wrote and recorded many songs at the shorefront abode, including “Something Good Coming.”

From this cabin-style retreat on Escondido Beach, Petty wrote in the famous song that he was “watching the water, watching the coast.”

Petty died in 2017, and this beloved beauty awaits its next owner.

Petty’s real estate legacy lives on elsewhere, too.

In 2019, the 1,300-square-foot Gainesville, FL, home where the rocker grew up was purchased by his ex-wife Jane Benyo Petty.

And in 2020, recording artist and “Only Murders in the Building” actress Selena Gomez bought Petty’s former estate in Encino, CA, for just under $5 million.

As for the Malibu abode, the interior boasts lots of wood, brick, and stone. There are wide-plank floors, exposed beams, and arched-wood ceilings.

A floor-to-ceiling fireplace separates the living room from the kitchen area and is complemented by a wall of windows that overlook the Pacific Ocean.

A formal dining room with built-in shelves leads out to the oceanfront deck.

There are two bedrooms in the cozy main house. The primary suite features a tiled fireplace, beachfront deck, and spacious bathroom with ocean views.

On the lower level, there is a multipurpose family, recreation, and media room, which offers direct beach access. The property is situated on 66 feet of coastal frontage and has a private rose-garden patio.

A separate guesthouse with “chandelier-height truss-and-beam ceilings,” currently configured as a recording studio, is included in the sale.

Who will be the lucky buyer to snag a piece of Petty history?

We’ll just have to wait and see. But as Petty once acknowledged, “The waiting is the hardest part.”
