Calling all motorheads: Retired race car driver Richard Berry‘s megamansion in Evergreen, CO, comes with its own jaw-dropping auto hangar.

Custom-built in 2004, the 50,275-square-foot mountain spread sits on 75 acres just west of Denver.

Listed for $24,799,000, the property known as Thunder Ridge is attracting a fair amount of attention. It was recently ranked as one of the most popular homes in the country.

But Thunder Ridge didn’t exactly rev the market’s engines in 2019, when it was listed for $19,999,000. Its current list price is an increase of $4.8 million, which listing agent Sean Endsley, of LIV Sotheby’s International Realty, attributes to Denver’s dynamic real estate scene.

“My market saw a 36% appreciation from the [COVID-19] pandemic to April this year. Then it dropped 16% to today,” says Endsley. “That’s a net 20% gain. The high-end market is not suffering like the low end. There is going to be some appreciation because of this home’s location.”

Another factor in the area’s invigorated market: the pandemic-driven migration from urban to rural neighborhoods, where many buyers prioritized square footage and breathing room over big-city perks, he says.

The six-bedroom main house is 22,864 square feet and offers loads of luxury amenities, including nine fireplaces, built-in aquariums, an enormous primary suite with a built-in bed, and a spectacular 27,000-square-foot auto hangar.

“People expressing interest in the property have ranged from royalty to other car enthusiasts,” Endsley notes.

And for car freaks with means, that hangar has everything: sleeping quarters, an office, a bathroom, a mechanic’s shop, and arena-quality speakers and lighting.

“It’s incredible,” Endsley raves.

But if a buyer doesn’t really care about storing a fleet, there are other possibilities.

“The flexibility of that space is going to sell the house,” Endsley says of the hangar, which has housed as many as 110 cars. “It’s just amazing to walk through. It could be used as a sports facility or equestrian facility.”

The mountaintop property also features a wine cellar, beauty salon, and home theater with stadium seating.

“Two million dollars was invested in the home theater,” says Endsley. “When it was built, it was the loudest theater on the planet. It has a ‘Star Trek’ theme; but it is modular, so you could easily turn it into a ‘Rocky,’ ‘Indiana Jones,’ or ‘Fight Club’ theme.”

“On the ceiling, when the sky presents as a night sky, you can see constellations and shooting stars,” Endsley says. “There are also six large garage doors to the pool that you can open up to make it an outdoor pool. It’s just incredible.”
