The offers came rolling in a week after a hobbit house for $380,000 came on the market in Keene, CA. And within three weeks, the quirky abode found a buyer.

The seller is an art teacher at a middle school not far from the house, and she has such an eclectic sense and is very much into ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and Tim Burton,” explains listing agent Christy Rabe, with Platinum Realty Group.

“You just walk in, and you just feel like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is such a cute little cottage,’” Rabe adds.

Many of the details like the pendant lights resembling tea cups and teapots and the playful pots sticking out of the wall are included in the sale.

The home sits on 2.5 acres, and the outside is just as charming with “little details in the front yard with a checkerboard and chess pieces,” Rabe says.

The two-bedroom, two-bath house is about 849 square feet, but Rabe says it feels bigger.

It’ss certainly cozy.

“It’s all stones and rocks on the exterior, and the walls themselves are Styrofoam blocks, so it’s extremely well-insulated and very unique,” Rabe says.

The roof has an undulating style, and many of the windows are round.

“I love all the interior features and amenities. It’s just so whimsical and fun,” Rabe says.

The first floor has a wood-burning fireplace, granite hearth, living space, and one bedroom and bath.

Upstairs, there’s a sitting area and the other bedroom and bathroom.

The property includes a small shop with water and electricity.

“It sits in a little community that is full of oak trees and riding trails, and it’s just absolutely beautiful,” she says. The location is about 30 minutes from Bakersfield.

Though she marketed the property as a great vacation rental, the buyers are planning to live in the home full-time, she says.

“The buyers actually bought it sight unseen. They’re moving from the East Coast, and their agent FaceTimed them from the house,” she says. “They wrote the offer, and then they just came out to look at the house, and they’re thrilled.”
