A Castle and a Carnival All Rolled Into One Property

Bumper cars, an aluminum zoo, and a castle are all available on one California property.

On the market for $3,995,000, Amador Castle in Jackson, CA, offers almost 30 acres of possibilities.

“When people first walk up there, it’s just shock and awe. But a lot of people don’t realize how beautiful the house is,” says listing agent Allan Veto, III, with Foundation Real Estate. “When you’re looking at it from the street, all you can really see is the circus equipment. You can’t see the house from the street.”

The massive 8,500-square-foot home was built in 1985 and features seven bedrooms, including an apartment on the lower level.

Befitting a miniature theme park, there’s plenty of space for entertaining.

“It has two kitchens. One kitchen is on the main floor of the house, and then in the basement, there is a commercial kitchen with a full bar and a banquet hall,” Veto explains.

The fortresslike home stood all by its lonesome for a couple of decades. Then the original owner added another couple to the ownership group in 2005. The new blood added the flights of fantasy to the existing castle.

“He owns a paving company and is very wealthy and a little bit eccentric. He came in and remodeled the kitchen and put the elevator in and did a bunch of work for the downstairs,” Veto explains. “Then he also put in all of the circus equipment and all of the aluminum animals that line the entire driveway.”

Those metal animals, two Ferris wheels, bumper cars, a merry-go-round, a train ride, the octopus, and more will all convey with the sale.

“They’re all operable, and they all work,” Veto says. “The plan is for everything to transfer for that $3,995,000. A buyer will get the carnival rides, all of the animals, the house, and all five parcels of land.”

Those additional parcels are about 5 acres each, and four of them are equipped with well and septic systems. It’s an intriguing development opportunity in the Sierra foothills.

“If someone wanted to go in there and buy it and build some other houses and have a compound, or if they wanted to buy the property, build a couple of houses, and sell them, [they could],” he says.

He believes the property might make a great winery or event venue.

“The main house is pretty much designed for weddings. The back patio is gorgeous, and there’s the bar area with the banquet hall. There’s plenty of space to grow and add whatever you want to make it as photogenic as you possibly need to.”

Veto says the house was listed in 2019 for about a million dollars less than the current asking price.

“Based on the different parcels, the house, how beautiful the area is, and how the market has been going, we went in there and analyzed it,” he explains. “We think almost $4 million is a fair asking price for what the property comes with.”

Including that one-of-a-kind miniature amusement park.

“A lot of people get hung up on just the carnival rides from the very beginning. They don’t get to see how beautiful the house is—or the potential.”
