A Pittsburgh Home Wows with Its Jaw-Dropping Interior Design

Things aren’t always as they seem. That phrase rings oh, so true when it comes to this animal-themed home in Pittsburgh.

From the exterior, the residence in the Mount Washington neighborhood serves up a modern and hip look. But nothing can prepare you for the surprises you’ll find inside.

On the market for $1,699,900, this eclectic three-bedroom home isn’t designed for the faint of heart. Resembling a museum, each room is more intriguing than the next.

For example, the home’s bathrooms make you feel like you are traipsing through a jungle. The two full baths feature everything from brown snakeskin wallpaper to animal-print shower curtains. There’s also a powder room that’s intriguingly wallpapered with faces.

Outside of the lavatories, there are also zebra chairs, cheetah wallpaper, as well as unique paintings of dogs, rabbits, a black stallion, sheep, and even a woman’s derriere on display throughout the home.

Built in 2003, the multilevel home has plenty going for it beyond the decor. For starters, the property’s iron gate opens to a private lane to the heated front driveway.

“This house is very eclectic and extremely different from anything on the market,” listing agent Jackie Horvath, of Howard Hanna, says in an understatement. “The unique design and views of the city combined with the design outside have all garnered lots of attention.”

Whether you’re sleeping among walls of roses or showering amid walls lined with birch trees, Horvath says the overall design blends and flows tastefully.

The flooring throughout ranges from marble and hardwood to wool runners. There are two stone fireplaces and a chef’s kitchen with granite countertops and high-end appliances.

There are two decks with glass railings overlooking the beautifully landscaped lot, which includes a tranquil waterfall. There’s also a high-performance lighting system to highlight the estate at night.

We asked the agent if there was any discussion with the homeowner about toning down the decor.

“Not at all, because when you’re in the house, it just flows,” she says. “I don’t know what you would take off. It just wouldn’t even be a consideration because it all just flows so well together. The light fixtures convey with the home, and the furniture is also for sale.”

Horvath adds that the price puts the home in the upper reaches of a city where the median list price is a modest $245,000.

“I believe it will go to a professional like a doctor or attorney because of its price point,” she said. “It will certainly be someone who enjoys the city and wants those beautiful views. When you take away all of the furnishings and paintings, you are left with just gorgeous hardwood floors, so you could really make it into anything you want.”
