A cozy Connecticut home designed and built by local architect David Scott quickly drew interest.

Listed for $549,000 in mid-April, the Ridgefield, CT, home received multiple offers—even though its style isn’t for everyone.

“I have found that, because it is such a unique property, people either love it or hate it,” says listing agent Mike Anderson, of Coldwell Banker Realty.

The three-bedroom home will need some work, he adds. “If it was in primo condition, it could go for $200,000 more.”

Intense interest can likely be attributed to the price and the unique design.

“We have had 110 showings now and a handful of offers, with more coming in. In this market, it’s a hot property at this price point,” says Anderson.

Scott “built it in 1966, and he and his wife raised three boys in the home. Unfortunately, he and his wife both died within 11 months of each other, so now the three boys are [selling],” adds Anderson.

The primary bedroom features a 9-foot ceiling and sliders that open to a spacious deck that spans the back of the house. An abundance of windows lets in natural light and provides an opportunity to soak in the surrounding natural beauty.

There’s a spiral staircase from the primary suite to a loft area that runs the length of the home. Wood walls create a warm feeling throughout.

The 3-acre property is in a secluded yet popular location, according to the agent. It’s located just minutes from downtown Ridgefield and Danbury, and shops, parks, as well as Great Pond are all less than a mile away.

The 2,337-square-foot home was designated a historic structure by the Ridgefield Historic District Commission.

When it comes to repairs, a new owner will likely want to start at the top.

“There is cedar siding and a cedar shake roof with lots of moss on it,” says Anderson. “The owner liked that look, but the roof needs to be cleaned [and] inspected and some shingles replaced.”

A tight local market in Western Connecticut is creating a ton of demand for this one-of-a-kind residence, says Anderson.

“There are only 32 listings now in Ridgefield when we would normally have 250 to 300. In 2020, we sold 650 or so homes during COVID. In 2021, there were 570 sold. This year, there are even fewer listings,” he explains.

“I had a couple who thought if they offered list price they would get it. When I asked for their last and best offer, one young purchaser burst into tears thinking she was going to get it based on her list offer,” he continues. “Four or five years ago that would have been it, but the last couple of years have been a whole different situation.”
