What was your most interesting job before going into real estate?

Being a franchise owner-operator of a regional New York-style sub and deli restaurant.

Where did you grow up?

Southwest Atlanta, Heritage Valley

Growing up, what did you want to be?

A wealthy man!

What do you do to relax when you’re stressed?

Enjoy a large popcorn and a good movie in a theater.

If you could meet any well-known figure (living or not), who would it be and why?

Bernard Garrett Sr., an American businessman, real estate investor and banker. He is  credited with being the first African-American man to own banks during the Jim Crow era. The movie, The Banker, released in 2019, is based on his life story.

What is Atlanta’s best-kept secret?

The Alfred “Tup” Holmes Memorial Golf Course, whose namesake was a civil rights pioneer who helped end desegregation at public golf courses. The course’s clubhouse has a treasure trove of history and memorabilia on display chronicling the game of golf for African-Americans and the journey to desegregate Atlanta’s public parks. 

What do you love most about the industry?

Helping people from a commercial real estate perspective, real estate’s importance in building long-term wealth and its limitless income potential.

How do you distinguish yourself from the crowd of agents?

I am one of few real estate brokers whose firm is registered as a national and Georgia minority supplier development council-certified minority business enterprise.

What is the most difficult aspect of your job?

Raising private equity.

What’s your best advice for generating new leads?

Let people know what you do often. The conversation is always about real estate. As NAR’s Preamble to the Code of Ethics states, “Under all is the land.”

What are you binge-watching/reading/listening to lately?

Ozark. Many of the scenes in the series were filmed in Atlanta.

What’s your favorite meal in Atlanta?

Anything from Paschal’s or Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q!

Architecturally speaking, what is your favorite building in Atlanta?

The Center for Human and Civil Rights.

What’s the weirdest thing that’s ever happened to you?

Being mistaken for celebrity chef Roger Mooking of Food Network’s “Man, Fire, Food” while on vacation in Florida. A group of tourists wanted to take picture with me. I tried to tell them I wasn’t him, but they didn’t believe me, so I went along with it! Imagine their surprise when they looked back at the photos.

What’s one thing people are surprised to learn about you?

I’m a Big Green Egg fanatic! I love cooking on ceramic smokers.

What is your favorite vacation spot and why?

O’ahu, Hawaii. The food in Honolulu is amazing, and Waikiki Beach is everything you’d imagine it to be.

What is your favorite city after Atlanta?

New Orleans

Find yourself a good mentor.
