With home prices soaring in Boise, ID, you can’t blame designer Luke Caldwell for testing the waters.

The co-star of HGTV’s “Boise Boys” recently put his very own River House on the market for $1,297,000.

Caldwell stars with his friend, contractor Clint Robertson, and the duo teamed up to overhaul this home on Season 1 of the popular renovation show.

The home is priced at $425 per square foot—well above the $287 median price per square foot in Boise—and it’s nearly $1 million more than what the pair paid in 2018. But the high price didn’t slow down buyer interest. The HGTV-famous home was on the market for less than two weeks, before one of its many offers was accepted.

Three years ago, Caldwell and Robertson paid just over $300,000 at auction for the quarter-acre riverfront lot, located just minutes from downtown Boise. There was a decrepit wood-frame home on the property that they thought could be renovated. But once they dug in, they quickly learned there was no way to salvage the existing structure. Cue a complete demolition and a clean slate.

What rose from the ruins was a large, modern house so gorgeous Caldwell decided to keep it for his own family, which now consists of his wife, Miranda, and eight kids. According to Caldwell, the 3,049-square-foot home was almost double the size of the previous house they lived in.

The two-story home has four bedrooms and 2.5 baths, as well as surfaces of wood, tile, metal, and concrete.

Natural cedar was used in a number of spots, including the custom garage door, bath vanities, the fireplace surround, and kitchen backsplash.

The kitchen features modern appliances and matte-black cabinets. The black soapstone counter can be used for prepping food, dining, or doing homework.

One of the home’s most striking (and challenging, according to contractor Robertson) features was the floating staircase made of concrete. Two towering walls of concrete had to be poured to support it. Floors on the main level are concrete as well—of the aggregate variety.

A massive great room features a soaring ceiling plus informal living and dining areas.

Neatly tucked away from the great room is the parents’ bedroom. It’s marked by sliding doors that open to an outdoor spa, and a unique neon headboard, which appropriately declares “Love Always” in vivid green. The artwork will transfer to the new owner.

Upstairs, it’s all about the kids, with a spacious loft-style family room, which was used for home schooling by day and TV watching by night.

There are also three bedrooms and one bathroom on this level.

We suspected the dearth of bathrooms (and bedrooms) was the main reason the family is selling this remarkable home, which has been featured in design magazines. One bathroom for eight kids, including an infant, to share is especially tight.
