Todd Phillips, the auteur of “Joker,” is among the new Hollywood elite, but he also understands the allure of Old Hollywood.

He fully embraced Hollywood’s heritage when he plunked down $17.25 million for a mansion in Beverly Hills back in 2012. Almost 10 years later, he’s put the classic 90210 home back on the market for $34.5 million—exactly twice the price.

The lush compound includes a classic Spanish Colonial mansion built by the celebrity architect Wallace Neff in 1929. It’s a rarity in the Beverly Hills flats—the estate sits on two lots that add up to nearly an acre.

It has seven bedrooms and 12 bathrooms, spread out over four lovely structures on the property.

Of course, the crowning glory is the main house. Entering through the front door, visitors are greeted by a grand, swirling staircase, topped by a hand-painted, domed ceiling.

Other classic architectural features include gracious arched windows and doors, hand-painted wood ceiling beams, wide-plank wood floors, as well as stately wood paneling in the library.

The house also features a number of covered balconies, classic features of homes of this era.

The kitchen has been completely remodeled, with white tile and marble surfaces and custom white cabinetry. It’s marked by a large central island, and also boasts a convenient butler’s pantry with a clever chalkboard for writing down reminders and menus.

There’s a TV lounge and three bedrooms upstairs, one of which is a spacious master suite with its own balcony and a bathroom that has been charmingly updated with modern, yet antique-looking, hardware and fixtures.

There are three other buildings on the premises, one of them a glass greenhouse-type solarium featuring a fitness room. Beside it, you’ll find an herb and vegetable garden with raised beds.

Yet another structure dedicated to visitors and entertainment features two guest suites above, and a lush, Dolby-certified, red-upholstered home theater below.

The fourth structure is a garage, with luxe guest accommodations or office space above.

These four fabulous buildings are set on resortlike grounds brimming with bougainvilleas and other mature trees and foliage. There are rolling lawns, fountains, a pool and spa, and a long, luxurious pergola for shade.

The entire property may appear to hark back to the 1920s, but one feature was decidedly developed in the 2020s. This is a smart home powered by Creston, and just about all its equipment can be controlled at the touch of a device.

Philips, 50, purchased the home while he was in the middle of working on his successful “Hangover” franchise. After completing that trilogy, he wrote and directed the acclaimed “Joker,” starring Joaquin Phoenix. He now has a number of projects in the works, including a “Joker” sequel and a Hulk Hogan biopic starring Chris Hemsworth.
