After a major interior makeover, a noteworthy mansion on Chicago’s North Shore linked to a Pabst beer baron is back on the market for $18 million.

In 2015, the 20,000-square-foot mansion in Glencoe, IL, landed on the market for $6,295,000. It underwent several price cuts before finally selling in 2017 for $3,575,000—just about half of its initial asking price.

Built in 1936 for the former Pabst Brewing Co. chairman Harris Perlstein, the Georgian-style property and its guesthouse offer a total of nine bedrooms and 12 bathrooms. It’s gated and private, and there’s also a seven-car garage on the property.

The architect William Pereira, who also designed the Transamerica Pyramid in San Francisco, and who co-designed the iconic Space Age “Theme Building” at the Los Angeles International Airport, drew up this mansion as well.

A fourfold increase in the asking price over the past four years reflects an array of recent updates, which the listing describes as “an extensive three-year, full-gut renovation meticulously executed by the owners themselves.”

Original architectural features like high ceilings, crown molding, cased openings, and window headers were retained during the multiyear makeover.

But the mansion now features a modern open floor plan more conducive to today’s living and entertaining. Luxury features were added from scratch, or updated to meet the needs of a 21st-century buyer.

Within the home, there are now three spas, a climate-controlled wine cellar, a salon, barber shop, fitness center, and elevator. Smart-home tech features were added and are likely to appeal to either a part-time resident who wants to control the home’s features from another location or to a music lover who can pipe in tunes to nearly every room.

To make the Chicago area’s chilly winters more bearable, there’s now radiant-floor heating in the interior and a snow-melting system for the driveway.

According to the one of the owners, the designer Anita Lisek, who owns a real-estate development company (Noah Properties) with her husband, Bart Przyjemski, the initial plan was to move into the property themselves. However, another project drew them elsewhere.

During their tenure as owners, the couple also added new windows, copper, and limestone.

“It was a lot of headaches and sleepless lights,” she told Mansion Global back in December, in reference to the multiyear renovation, “but it paid off. It turned out beautifully.”

In the article, Lisek also mentioned that a buyer can fold the home’s current furnishings into the sale price if desired.

Whoever moves into the home next won’t have to lift a finger to plot out the landscaping, since mature flowers, plants, and trees are already flourishing.

The 2.5-acre lot means there’s lots of room to unwind and entertain outdoors, including an outdoor, 60-foot pool area with a slide, hot tub, fireplace, and poolhouse. For additional athletic endeavors, there’s also a soccer field and sports court.

Overnight guests can easily bunk in the two-bedroom guesthouse, which is connected to the main house by a glass-walled walkway.
