Former Vice President Mike Pence and his wife, Karen Pence, have returned to their home state of Indiana.

They’ve put down roots in Zionsville, IN, a suburb north of Indianapolis, with a $1.93 million home purchase, USA Today first reported.

The property, located in Hamilton County, came on the market in April for $1.8 million. If the final reported price is accurate, the ex-veep paid over the asking in order to secure his dream home.

“I’m not surprised at all by their choice to come to North Indy,” says Courtney Miller, a real estate agent in the Indianapolis area with Highgarden Real Estate.

She didn’t represent either side in the transaction, but she tells us that the area includes perks like “quick access to the highway and a short commute to the airport, but also the quiet of suburban living.”

She adds, “I imagine the thought of coming home to peaceful Hamilton County after the pressure and stress of the international stage is very appealing. Once a Hoosier, always a Hoosier.”

Now back home in the Hoosier State, the Pences will be settling in to quite a spread.

Set on a bucolic 5 acres, the property includes a dock looking onto the “awesome pond,” as the listing describes it.

With 10,300 square feet, the spacious home, built in 2008, includes seven bedrooms and 7.5 bathrooms. It is accessed by a long driveway, and the large space opens into an open living and dining area, with glass doors opening out to the property.

A kitchen with island and a bar top with seating and wood cabinets opens out to the dining area. The living area features a stone surround fireplace. A wood-paneled library and office features built-in bookshelves.

The formal dining room, with a chandelier, is connected to a wet bar.

Upstairs, the master suite comes with a sitting area, walk-in closet, and separate vanities in the bathroom. An additional family area includes built-in bookshelves and desks and another separate office.

A lower level features a media room, handcrafted bar, and game room with a pool table. Other perks include an workout room, and an indoor basketball court.

Outside, for warmer months, they can enjoy dining al fresco from a screened-in porch and barbecue area. The grounds also include a pool with a surrounding patio, as well as grassy lawns and the pond.

In Washington, DC, the Pences resided in the vice presidential mansion, located on the Naval Observatory. When Pence was elected governor in 2012, the couple sold their home in Columbus, IN, and moved into the governor’s mansion, USA Today notes.

Pence now requires a quiet place to focus on his writing. He recently signed a double-book deal with Simon & Schuster. He served as the 48th vice president from 2017 to 2021. Before he was chosen as vice president, he served as Indiana’s governor from 2013 to 2017, and represented the state in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2001 to 2013.
