If you spent countless hours entering the 2021 HGTV Dream House contest, there’s still a chance to walk away a winner.

You can now purchase the grand prize in Portsmouth, RI, even though a winner was chosen from the 136 million entries.

The winner, Jeff Yanes of Kyle, TX, opted for a cash prize, and the house is now on the market for $2.39 million.

Built last year, the three-story contemporary Cape Cod-style home is located on an elevated, 1.32-acre lot, right above the shores of the Sakonnet River. The purchase price includes all the furniture, wall art, appliances, fixtures, and decor.

Although Yanes said he was attracted to the home’s rooftop, with its waterfront views and a full outdoor kitchen, he opted to take the cash prize instead.

“I didn’t believe it was true,” Yanes said in a statement, about winning the HGTV Dream Home 2021. “It’s one of those things you just enter and never expect to win. I thought someone was messing with me.”

The total value of the grand prize package was valued at $2,852,165. It included the house and all its furnishings, $250,000 from Rocket Mortgage, and a 2021 motorhome from Camping World. According to the official rules of the contest, the winners had the option of receiving $750,000 in cash and the motorhome, should they decide not to take possession of the home.

HGTV reported that Yanes is an independent contractor supplying grocery stores and restaurants with baked goods, and worked throughout the pandemic to keep shelves stocked and food on families’ plates. So it follows that he wouldn’t leave his life in Texas behind and move to Rhode Island, even for a beautiful home like this one.

The network went all-out in the construction and design of the three-story, 3,358-square-foot home, located just 10 miles from the well-heeled shores of Newport, RI.

A renowned designer, Brian Patrick Flynn, designed the interior.

Flynn describes the finished product as “full of modern nautical design and rich colors that honor Newport’s coastal New England charm, such as deep reds and blues, with neutral tones and pops of pattern.”

The ocean aquas and seagrass greens he used are also eye-catching.

Those nautical design touches are especially evident in the patriotic kitchen, with pops of red, white shiplap walls, and custom blue cabinetry.

Two of the guest bedrooms also hew to a patriotic aesthetic, with the colors of the American flag on full display.

Sea green was also blended into the color palette, as seen in the third-story dormer bedroom with skylights.

A celestial ocean blue is featured in the main suite. The calming color makes this space an ideal retreat, and it also features a walk-in closet and airy bathroom.

The same shade was also deployed in the family room, which has French doors that lead out to a lovely stone deck.

One of the home’s true highlights is the party-ready rooftop deck, with its own wet bar and impressive water views.

The design doesn’t stop within the home’s walls. Outdoor areas were thoughtfully laid out and include an elaborate outdoor kitchen, multiple seating areas, and a putting green. A lovely furnished gazebo has steps to a path that leads down to the riverbank.

Even the two-car garage has flair to spare. If the cars are parked outside, the garage can double as a party palace. It features a sailboat mural, a teak and canvas sofa with pillows, and two movable pub tables with high bar chairs.

Although we understand the tax implications of a large prize, the winner’s decision to take a pass on this prizeworthy home has opened up the field to anyone with a couple of million to spare. For a buyer in search of a turnkey showpiece, this HGTV-approved design is a prize like no other.
