Quirky Creator Christine McConnell Selling Her Charming California Cottage

Christine McConnell selling her house

Christine McConnell

Christine McConnell, the creative craft, decor, and food designer with one pastel pump firmly planted on the dark side, is selling her quaint California cottage in the woods.

McConnell has moved to upstate New York to put her unique stamp on a century-old mansion that she purchased sight unseen.

As a result, the artist, baker, and candlestick maker is asking $329,000 for her charming haunt in Twin Peaks, CA—a rustic community in the San Bernardino Mountains, not far from Lake Arrowhead.

McConnell first came to attention thanks to her creative and slightly creepy holiday designs at her parents’ house.

It wasn’t too long after that that Netflix came calling. She landed her own show, a combination DIY/comedy/baking/reality show called “The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell,” which co-starred Jim Henson Company puppets and her own pets.

The show ran for a single season of six episodes, but wasn’t renewed.

A good deal of the show was shot in this charming two-bedroom, two bathroom cottage. She purchased the place for $199,000 in 2014, and immediately began transforming the 948-square-foot residence.

“I’ve lived in this house for about six years,” she explains. “It looked very simple when we first bought it. And I’ve just basically spent the past six years adding as much magic as I possibly can to it.”

Magic is in full bloom from floor to ceiling indoors, as well as outdoors. From the floral landscaping on the large acre lot, to the restored antique furnishings, to the gauzy window treatments, to retro-looking appliances in the kitchen, it is apparent that McConnell’s magic wand has been busy.

Among her favorite rooms in the adorable home is the cheery yellow kitchen.

“I’m really going to miss waking up in the morning and making my coffee in this kitchen,” she says. “I have so many really incredible memories in this room. All the way from getting a phone call and being told I was going to have a show on Netflix, to watching Mr. Biggles beg for his breakfast, to crying over a few cakes and pies that just did not work out.”

She says she’ll also miss the baby blue bedroom under the eaves, with its dormer windows.

“To date, this has been my very favorite bedroom that I’ve ever had,” she adds.

To be fair, she did say this before she’d started the renovation of her new home on the East Coast.

The living room, with hardwood floors and tray ceilings, has become an Instagram star as well. McConnell has decorated it for holidays like Halloween and Christmas in her own signature style.

It’s no surprise that it hides a secret entrance to a Victorian-inspired guest suite.

Should you take a look at the house and decide it wouldn’t be the same without its meticulously selected and restored furnishings and accessories, know that they are also available for purchase.

The listing states, “This is more than a house; this is a home filled with warmth and care, and its next owner will be the next steward in its history. This home can transfer furnished as seen for the right buyer.”

McConnell also made her own video to showcase her mountain property. “I filmed and edited this together, to try to recreate the feeling of what it was like to be here, and I hope you enjoy it,” she wrote.

While McConnell’s Netflix show is no longer, she’s still sharing her unique spirit and expertise on Facebook, Instagram, and a show called “From the Mind of Christine McConnell” on Patreon.
