The Provo, UT, estate of the late author and businessman Stephen Covey has come on the market. His book of business wisdom, “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People,” is a perennial bestseller.

Covey died in 2012 at the age of 79, leaving behind a publishing empire—and a massive mansion. His custom-built home is now available for $6.9 million.

Designed by the Utah-based architect Robert McArthur for the author, the 42-room architectural marvel measures a massive 21,548 square feet. The picture-perfect site sits at the base of the Wasatch Mountains, and captures views of the valley below, including the campus of Brigham Young University.

Built in 1996, the two-story home features seven bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, and walls of glass and skylights that bring natural light into every room. It also boasts soaring ceilings, ornate decor, and carved and hand-painted elements throughout. An elevator connects the floors.

On the main level, an oversized living room with a fireplace looks out onto walls of glass. A formal dining room adjoins a great room with a kitchen and family room, and features dramatic views from an enormous deck that runs the length of home.

A two-story library includes a balcony and plenty of room to house all the author’s bestselling books.

In addition, the layout features an office, butler’s pantry, and linen pantry. The spacious main floor master suite offers dual closets, a jetted tub, kitchenette, two-story fireplace, and automatic blinds.

You can take a dip year-round in the enormous indoor swimming pool, surrounded by glass doors and skylights, plus shower rooms. The area also includes a basketball court, complete with an electronic scoreboard.

Other amenities include a separate apartment, a playroom with a nursery rhyme theme, a home gym, sauna, walk-out daylight basement, and six-car garage.

The gated estate is set on 6 acres, and its driveway leads to a custom circular entry featuring a compass pattern. The spacious outdoor area boasts rose gardens, a gazebo, a sand volleyball court, a flat yard, and lush landscaping.

Perched high above the Provo-Orem valley, the location is just minutes from skiing, biking and hiking, as well as the Salt Lake International Airport.

Covey’s bestselling work was published in 1989 and is said to have sold 40 million copies worldwide.

The motivational speaker also wrote a number of other popular titles in the self-help genre. At the time of his death, the Utah native was a professor at Utah State University’s Jon M. Huntsman School of Business.

Linda Secrist with Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Utah-Salt Lake holds the listing.
