A storybook home in the Land of 10,000 Lakes has landed on the market for $450,000.

“The cedar shakes, the beautiful stonework on the chimney—it just really looks like a picture from a fairy tale,” says the listing agent, Marcy Wengler. “It has insane curb appeal.”

Built in 1930, the home on Hillside Avenue in St. Paul, MN, has 1,455 enticing square feet of living space.

“I think the seller did a wonderful job adding all kinds of details that have been stripped out of these houses over many years, and added them back in to make a really cool urban retreat,” Wengler says.

The adorable abode offers three bedrooms and two bathrooms in 1.5 finished stories. The master suite is upstairs.

“He really utilized all of the space. Sometimes, you end up with an upper level that is little tight and hard to live in. Not only does this have great ceiling height, he did detailed woodwork throughout the ceilings and the walls,” she explains.

The owner bought the house in 1993 and renovated over the years. Wengler notes that he had a unique decor style, with many pops of color, industrial details, and rows of fishing poles mounted on the walls and ceilings.

“Unfortunately, the family has already had a very successful estate sale, so those items are gone now, but he just had such an eye for design,” she says. “He kept a very white palette on the ceiling and the walls, and then let his collections speak for the space.”

Wengler says potential buyers can now easily envision their own belongings in the home.

“It’s just a real comfortable space,” she says. “He really worked to maximize everything, as far as making the space usable.”

The kitchen has an attached seating area that also serves a mudroom.

Wengler told us there’s one thing she would do if she was buying the house: add more space.

“I would finish the basement. He was just a single guy there, so he didn’t have any need to use that space. He used it as a big workshop,” she explains. “It’s a big space that would make a great additional family room or a kids’ hangout.”

The outdoor space is equally impressive.

“The exterior fountains are just amazing. The deck was built with curved angles, so they’re soft, and they go with the flow of the three ponds that kind of flow into each other,” Wengler says.

The house has a one-car garage and is close to a historic city park.

Wengler says the perfect buyer will enjoy both the location and the home.

“I think it is somebody who would appreciate all of the details and thoughtful renovations he did over the years,” she says.
