When you think of homes in Los Angeles, charming storybook residences probably aren’t the first things that spring to mind.

But away from the sleek white boxes in the hills and the modern farmhouses sprouting up in the Valley, the L.A. metro has plenty of pockets of storybook homes—even in places like Hollywood, Hancock Park, and Beverly Hills.

These adorable homes are in high demand.

That’s one of the reasons that this quaint, self-proclaimed “fixer” in Los Angeles’ Wilshire Vista neighborhood landed on the market with a bold price of $1,275,000, and had an offer pending in less than a week.

The 2,087-square-foot Normandy Revival home, which was built in 1929, had not been on the market since the owners paid $405,000 for the place 32 years ago.

They were careful to preserve all the typical storybook house details, including the turret entry, stained-glass windows, period weathervane, and that charming rock-rimmed fireplace, where you can just imagine a fairytale heroine cozying up on an unseasonably cold winter’s night.

Also original and harkening back nearly a century are the wood floors, arched passthroughs, barrel ceilings in the living room, and the classic tray ceiling details in the dining room.

The galley kitchen and laundry room have been updated with attractive black-and-white tile flooring and some new fixtures, but there are still plenty of opportunities for tweaks to fulfill a buyer’s fantasy.

The bathrooms still have some original tilework, and original wood shelving can be found in some of the other rooms.

The bedrooms are surprisingly spacious for a home from the 1920s. Two of the bedrooms feature French doors leading out to the backyard. Another bedroom comes with extensive built-in shelving and could easily be used for a study, office, or media room.

The backyard features a detached garage and fountain, as well as a stone terrace and covered dining area. There’s also a barbecue and food prep area that appears to have been there for some time.

Of course, the home’s convenient location in L.A.’s mid-Wilshire District is likely to have had something to do with the rapid sale. The location offers easy access west to Beverly Hills and West Hollywood, and east to downtown. The possibility of avoiding heavy traffic is now a prime ingredient for a Southern California fairy tale and possibly seems like an ideal outcome for the new owners of this storybook charmer.
