Driver sought after man killed in hit-and-run on busy Buckhead road

Atlanta police are looking for the driver of a Honda Civic who hit and killed a man Thursday morning on a busy Buckhead road.

A witness told police the unidentified man was trying to run across Piedmont Road near Sidney Marcus Boulevard before he was hit. He was dead and lying in the street when officers arrived about 12:45 a.m.

The vehicle that struck the man did not stay at the scene, according to police spokesman Officer Steve Avery. Evidence indicated the vehicle was a dark blue or black newer model Civic, he said.

Investigators are asking for the public’s help to locate the car, which they said is likely to have damage to the front grill and be missing a headlight.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the police department’s accident investigation unit at 404-327-1391. Tipsters can remain anonymous, and be eligible for rewards of up to $2,000, by contacting Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477, texting information to 274637 or visiting the Crime Stoppers website.
