The last home of the late Paul-Henri Nargeolet, the deep-sea explorer who tragically died in the June 2023 Titan submersible accident, has just gone up for sale for $1.7 million.

Known as “Mr. Titanic,” Nargeolet had purchased the 2.74-acre property in January 2022 for $1.5 million.

Located at 1018 Route 292 on the private Whaley Lake in Dutchess County, NY, the four-bedroom, four-bath, custom-built house sports 515 feet of sparkling lakefront along with a beach, dock, and shady deck.

“He spent his life on the water, so I imagine he’d wanted to look out on it,” says co-listing agent Regan Andrews, of Houlihan Lawrence Brewster, in an exclusive interview with Realtor.com®. “He loved this house because it was on the water.”

With the explorer’s untimely death, the inheritors of his estate felt it was finally time to sell.

“He and his wife liked to do a lot of swimming, which the lake allowed him to do,” adds Andrews, who shares the listing with Linda Finn.

Andrews says Nargeolet spent only two years in his new house after relocating from Greenwich, CT, and that he spent the first year repainting and building a two-car garage. Another perk was his best friends lived nearby.

The house does seem like the perfect watery paradise, with stunning lakefront views.

Enter the home, and you will be greeted by a wall of windows overlooking the water. There’s a double-story living/family room with a fireplace for those cold upstate New York winters; an enormous kitchen with stainless appliances, granite countertops, and center island with seating; and a spacious pantry and laundry area.

Nargeolet was the director of underwater research for RMS Titanic, which owns salvage rights to the famous ocean liner’s wreckage. He had previously led 37 successful expeditions to the site, supervised the recovery of thousands of artifacts, and was considered to have spent more time at the wreckage than anyone else.

The deep-sea explorer leaves behind his wife, Anne Sarraz-Bournet; two daughters, Chloé and Sidonie; a son, Julien; and a stepson, John Nathaniel Paschall.

Along with four others, Nargeolet perished aboard the submersible Titan as it approached the wreckage of the Titanic on June 18, 2023. The wreckage lies about 12,500 feet below sea level off the coast of Newfoundland.

Also aboard were Titanic fanatics Pakastani-British businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son, Suleman; British businessman and aviator Hamish Harding; and the pilot and founder of OceanGate, Stockton Rush.
