Game, set, and record-breaking sale!

Big money changed hands in Cornwall, CT, due to the massive sale of tennis legend Ivan Lendl‘s grand estate.

The $12 million transaction is the most ever paid for a home in Litchfield County, which is in the northwestern part of the state.

The home had been on and off the market for years, listed for as much as $25 million, according to reports. We covered it back in 2016, when the list price was $19.8 million.

It took about a decade, but a buyer finally emerged for the 10-bedroom, 12.5-bath home, 18,000-square-foot mansion on more than 445 acres.

The Georgian-Federal-style home was designed for Lendl by architect Allan Greenberg in 1992.

Built of stone, the home features an elegant living room, wood-paneled library, formal dining area, and family room. Oak flooring runs throughout, and multiple fireplaces offer warmth and coziness during chilly New England winters. Lendl’s many trophies (he won eight Grand Slams in his storied career) sit in a special room behind glass.

The eat-in kitchen has high-end appliances, an island with a breakfast bar, and a butler’s pantry. The primary bedroom is on the second floor and includes a sitting room, two large closets, a luxurious bathroom, and an office.

Other indoor amenities include a pool with a locker area, a sauna, a full-sized gym, a game room, and a wine room. Outside, there’s a heated gunite pool, a cabana, a three-bedroom guest cottage, and, of course, a tennis court.

The attached and detached garages can accommodate eight vehicles. Rolling hills, paddocks for horses, and a barn complete this incredible property.

Lendl is considered one of the greatest athletes to ever play the sport of tennis, commanding the No. 1 spot in singles for 270 weeks, a record at the time. After retiring from the sport in 1994, Lendl later did some coaching on the pro tour, working with Andy Murray in 2012.
