Want to live in a beautiful, historic home? Also itching to be a part of TV history? We might know the place for you!

This 4-bedroom, 2.5-bathroom home—available for $440,000—was featured in a Season 3 episode of the HGTV home improvement show, “Home Town,” called “Everybody Wants a Porch.”

First listed for $450,000 earlier in the year, the home last changed hands in 2018 for an undisclosed price.

Built in 1870, the Laurel, MS, homestead features classic touches like a butler’s pantry and formal living room. Still, “Home Town” hosts Erin and Ben Napier were able to bring it up to contemporary standards during their 2018 renovation, adding an updated kitchen and replacing the floors.

‘Charm and character’

Listing agent Courtney Edwards, with Red Fox Realty, says, “This home is special, because it has all the charm and character of old-world history and construction detail with all the modern conveniences built for families today.”

The 3,727-square-foot home comes with some pretty nice perks—an in-ground pool and a home office with a separate entrance, for starters. But Edwards says buyers have something else to get excited about.

“The location of this home is probably one of its best features,” she notes. “It is conveniently located in the heart of historic downtown Laurel and is within walking distance to many restaurants, shops, the Lauren Rogers Museum, and much more.”

In the episode, Erin tells her clients, Bill and Julie, that this entryway is, in fact, not covered in wallpaper. It’s upholstery.

“It’s so rare,” she says of the feature, noting that the installation was “done really well.”

Erin decides to keep the upholstery but paints the trim and wainscoting a beautiful blue to make the pattern pop.

Classic layout

Erin calls this house “a very traditional Southern home” because of its classic layout. Not only does it have a foyer but also a formal dining room and a relatively closed-off layout.

The Napiers stay true to the home’s original arrangement—except in the kitchen, where they take down a wall and add two large islands. But they don’t stop there: The second island has an attached dining table, providing a casual eating area.

Ben tells his clients that even if a pool wasn’t a priority in their house search, they might end up being glad to have it.

“In Mississippi, you can use a pool sometimes 12 months out of the year,” he says.

The Napiers don’t need to make changes to the outdoor space, but they do replace the floors in the living room that opens to the yard. They put in a luxury vinyl tile that looks like wood but is waterproof. It’s another thoughtful feature for a great house.
