Several interstates and highways are flooding in metro Atlanta amid heavy downpours Friday evening.

According to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center, the areas affected include Ga. 400, I-285 and I-75.

In Sandy Springs, all southbound lanes of Ga. 400 are under muddy water due to the nearby I-285/Ga. 400 interchange project, the Traffic Center reported. NewsChopper 2 footage shows cars slowly move through the floodwater.

The left lane of I-285 North is also affected by ponding near Bolton Road in northwest Atlanta, the Traffic Center reported.

In Cobb County, multiple left lanes of I-75 South are underwater at Windy Hill Road, according to NewsChopper 2. The I-75 North express lanes are also flooding in the same area, the Traffic Center reported.

The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement about 6:15 p.m. to warn about a line of thunderstorms moving through Atlanta. However, the potential wind speeds do not reach the 60 mph to qualify as a severe thunderstorm, which is why a warning has not been issued.

Channel 2 Action News is reporting that areas of metro Atlanta has amassed nearly 2 inches of rain over the past three hours. Evening storms were projected for Friday evening.
