Glass-Front Residence in Fayetteville, AR for $1.3M

One home in Fayetteville, AR, stands out by actually blending in with the surroundings.

The glass-fronted abode has an innovative design that reflects the trees and nature around it.

The eye-catching, modern build from 1973 is listed for $1.3 million.

“A lot of our properties in Arkansas are really cookie-cutter, your typical three- or four-bedroom, three-bath home,” says listing agent Nicky Dou, with Collier & Associates-Bentonville Branch. “This one was designed by the late world-renowned architect James Lambeth, who in Arkansas is a big deal.”

Lambeth was known for environmentally conscious architecture using solar energy. He died in 2003.

“The whole front of the house is glass. He built that house to reflect his own house, which sits a street above it,” Dou explains. “He has this really unique flair of just charm and charisma throughout his houses.”

The home has four bedrooms and three bathrooms in 3,100 square feet of living space. Of that, 1,100 square feet were added in 2011 by the current sellers.

“They got the architecture group that carried on James Lambeth’s name and had them design the rest of the structure,” she says. “Walking through it, you wouldn’t even know that it was an afterthought. It was just so seamless how they put the two together.”

The addition included a four-car garage and more living space, but they didn’t stop there.

The sellers “completely remodeled the kitchen in the last year. It’s just so beautiful. All you have to do is show pictures and people go crazy over it,” Dou says.

The house “is just different and very unique,” she continues. “It kind of blends in with the surroundings, and that’s what they wanted it to do. The trees reflect on the front of the house, so you don’t see the house when you’re driving by because you’re seeing a reflection of trees.”

Though Lambeth designed several homes in the area, it’s rare to find one for sale.

“They never come on the market. People keep them forever,” she says. This one is on the market because the sellers are leaving the area.

The home is on a half-acre lot on a private street close to the University of Arkansas, biking trails, parks, and shops.

Dou notes that the price point could turn away some buyers, but the perfect buyer is out there.

“The right person will pay the price for it,” she says. “I think it’s somebody who actually loves architecture and who knows who James Lambeth is.”
