20-home working-farm community in Dekalb County begins sales

A new conservation community on Briarcliff Road in Dekalb County is turning the farm-to-table movement on its head and bringing the table to the farm with 20 energy-efficient homes centered around a working one-acre farm.

Designed and built by Atlanta-based custom-home builder Healthy House of Georgia, Pendergrast Farm features a host of eco-friendly amenities. Seventy-percent of the project’s land has been preserved, including 5.5 wooded acres with walking trails, and an organic working farm with a live-in farmer. Residents will get first pick of fruits and vegetables grown there via CSA subscriptions.

Amenities will include a working farm, central green, saltwater swimming pool and common house. Courtesy of Pendergrast Farm.

Other amenities will include a central green, saltwater swimming pool and common house, which will host culinary events, wine tastings, meetings and gatherings, including exercise classes and book clubs. It also features guest quarters that homeowners can reserve for visiting family and friends.

The homes begin at $1.2 million and are hard-wired for energy conservation, coming solar-panel and EV-charging ready. The model home uses 50% less energy than a comparable new home built to current building codes and 80% less energy than comparable resale homes, Healthy House said. Three move-in ready homes are available for purchase, and lots are available for custom-designed homes.

“This a passion project for me,” Healthy House President Dennis McConnell said in a press release. “I came out of retirement to build this one-of-a-kind conservation community that seamlessly blends the beauty of nature with the convenience of city living.”
