A neighborhood in Berthoud, CO, was rocked this spring when four homes from Season 4 of HGTV’s popular renovation competition “Rock the Block” hit the market there.

While two of the houses have since been snapped up, the other two homes from the Ty Pennington-hosted show remain unsold.

So we wanted to check back in to see why these showcase properties are still available.

Here’s how the home-design throwdown unfolded.

Rocking the block

This season, the four teams of design duos included Bryan and Sarah Baeumler (2517 Southwind Rd), Michael Smith Boyd and Anthony Elle ( 2531 Southwind Rd), Jonathan Knight and Kristina Crestin (2506 Southwind Rd), and Page Turner and Mitch Glew (2490 Southwind Rd).

Over six weeks, the teams were challenged to build out each identical residence, which ranged from $3,150,000 to $3,450,000, in their unique styles. The winner would be the team whose dwelling garnered the highest-appraised value at the end of the competition: That honor was bestowed on Smith Boyd and Elle.

Of the four homes from the show, two are still available.

This one, designed by Knight and Crestin, is available for $3,150,000.

And while this home won the reality show’s top prize, it hasn’t quite won over a buyer just yet: The home designed by Smith Boyd and Elle is still on the market for $2,995,000.

Sales status

So, what’s the holdup with these two homes, both of which hit the market in May?

Despite the high interest rates, listing agent Tamara Sherrill, of Re/Max Alliance says there is active interest in both properties and that showings are held weekly.

“We have also hosted several events at the two remaining homes, including entering 2531 Southwind into the 2023 Parade of Homes with over 1,000 visitors,” she shares. “The on-site events have generated a lot of positive feedback but have also helped build the community and provide residents in Northern Colorado with a novel experience of seeing HGTV-designed homes.”

‘It takes a little longer’

Sherrill is confident the remaining two homes will sell soon, despite their hefty price tags.

“The location was driven by the producers of ‘Rock the Block,’ and that decision alone helped the sale of two of the homes as they have complete views of … lakes and mountains,” she says. “At the $3 million price point, it takes a little longer to find just the right buyer. Compared to other seasons of ‘Rock the Block,’ the homes Landmark built for Season 4 are not only the most expensive but the largest they have built in the history of the show.”

Sherrill believes the perfect buyers for the homes will love “nature, water, and mountains” and golf. She also cites the homes’ convenience to I-25, Boulder, Loveland, and Fort Collins as a significant selling point.

But that certainly isn’t the extent of the amenities buyers will enjoy here. They’ll receive membership at the world-renowned Tournament Players Club golf course, plus access to a fitness center and an oversized pool with a swim-up bar.

The homeowners will “experience resort-style living in a peaceful setting for stargazing at night and playing outdoors during the day,” Sherrill says. “This is a discerning buyer who appreciates creative design in a gorgeous, rare location.”
