Atlanta took second place in a new StorageCafe analysis ranking the 50 largest U.S. cities by median home and lot size.
With new lots of more than 11,500 square feet and median homes at 1,953 square feet, Atlanta’s second-place position comes as residences have expanded while lots have shrunk over the last decade, reflecting the city’s influx of residents and limited amount of buildable land.
Atlanta’s median home value now stands at $425,898, up 17% from 10 years ago.
Nationwide, the median single-family home has shrunk 4% since 2013 to 2,299 square feet, while lots have decreased by 8% to 8,891 square feet. The median-home price stands at $457,000.
The No. 1 city in StorageCafe’s ranking is Raleigh, N.C., while Charlotte, N.C.; Omaha, Nebraska; and Nashville, Tennessee, round out the top five after Atlanta. The top 10 cities are listed below:
