Is That a Flying Saucer?! Nah. Just a Spaceship-Shaped House in Michigan

Realtor.com

You there, ET? Either way, this home in Lansing, MI, is one far-out design.

“When you pull around the driveway, it looks like a flying saucer landed on a hilltop,” explains listing agent Stacie Neros, with Keller Williams Realty Lansing-East. “I’ve never seen anything like it.”

The 3,509-square-foot spaceship house is listed for $359,900. The round residence has caught earthlings’ eyes and is this week’s most popular home on Realtor.com®.

Who wouldn’t want to take this space for a spin? Let’s just say the theme is circular.

“There is not one straight line in the whole house—everything is rounded,” Neros says. “The light fixtures are rounded. The counters are rounded. The walls and the hallways are rounded.”

Spaceship? No, just a flying-saucer-shaped house

When Neros went to see the three-bedroom, three-bath house after an estate attorney contacted her, she found lots of space paraphernalia, such as NASA patches.

“There were drawings of the home, so you could see where [the owner] got his inspiration,” Neros says, adding that the drawings “looked like a spaceship.”

The house was completed in 1994 and has been vacant since the elderly owner passed away. Neros says the major mechanicals are in working order, but the landscaping is overgrown, and the inside needs a bit of work.

“It’s in moderate condition” she says. “In its day, the property was just gorgeous. It just needs some TLC.”

The owner once used the lower level as a wellness center.

“When you walk in there, it’s almost like walking into a receiving area of an office,” Neros notes, adding that the buyer could convert that bottom level into more living spaces, since there is already a full bathroom. “Half of the lower level is a huge semi-circular classroom.”

The upper level includes the home’s main living spaces—including Neros’ favorite feature, the front doors.

“They’re gorgeous,” she says. “They are round, solid wood. They open up to this really cool, fun front porch area. If you look straight up, there’s a big round skylight and it’s like, ‘Beam me up Scotty.’ That’s how it feels.”

A hallway of greenhouse-like glass connects the circular dwelling to a two-car garage. A 1,440-square-foot barn is also part of the large, wooded property.

“The 20-plus acres is very attractive to many people,” Neros points out. “I think the person who buys this house will be someone who is very much into the theme of the home and likes a quirky home. Nature abounds there. Deer come right up the property and walk right by the windows.”
