A sweet suburban home in Laurel, MS, featured on the popular HGTV show “Home Town” is on the market for $210,000.

Fans of the show should cast their minds back to Season 1, Episode 9, which aired in May 2017. Erin and Ben Napier helped their friends Dawn and Michael Trest move out of a downtown loft and into a life in suburbia. The Trests chose a split-level built in 1968 that was on the market for $115,000. Located on a quiet, dead-end street and surrounded by greenery, the home is just 10 minutes from downtown.

With 2,436 square feet of living space, the closed-off home featured a cumbersome carport, generic boxy interior, and ho-hum design. In short, the Napiers had a long to-do list.

They transformed the run-down residence into a cozy and welcoming space.

“Erin and Ben hit the nail on the head whenever it comes to making a house a home,” Dawn says in the episode.

We have to agree.

The Napiers and their team spruce up the outside of the home, and Ben pulls the carport straight off the house by chaining it to his truck and driving off. 

“It was pretty much my greatest moment on this house,” Ben says on the episode.

Inside, walls come down to create an open entryway and dining room, with new hardwood flooring seamlessly incorporated throughout. And the eye-catching kitchen now looks out over the living area, and features black granite countertops, oversized subway tile backsplash, and new appliances.

In the living area, the “Home Town” team adds a built-in window seat to create a breakfast seating area as well as lots of cabinets and built-in shelves for attractive storage.  

Stepping down to the lower-level living space, a wood-burning, potbellied stove is now a focal point in the fireplace. Faux beams and fresh paint add more interest.

A built-in desk also now graces the living area, a perfect touch for those still working or schooling from home. The bedrooms have also been updated with fresh paint and new hardware installed in the baths.

In the second living area, French doors open to the patio. And now, outside on the half-acre lot, the carport has been replaced with an outdoor living area. A fenced, grassy backyard completes the property.

The Trest family are now in need of more space than the three-bedroom, two-bathroom home provides. They’re packing up their belongings to move into a larger place.

“They loved their house, but they’re excited about their future as well,” says listing agent Courtney Edwards, with Red Fox Realty. The show has helped spur massive interest in area homes, and the low cost of living in Laurel and sense of local community are additional pluses, Edwards adds.

The listing has barely been up for a day, and Edwards already has showings scheduled. Act fast if you want your own slice of “Home Town” life.
