A koi pond winds through the living room. The mosaic-tiled tentacles of a red sea creature appear at various spots throughout the property. Balconies are supported by cypress wood that sat for more than a century at the bottom of a swamp.

These unique features and so much more dot the unique compound of reality TV producer Thom Beers. His Zen enclave in the Sherman Oaks neighborhood of L.A. is now available for $7.9 million. It was initially listed in early February for $8.5 million. It’s also available for lease for $25,000 a month.

“The property itself is amazing. It’s totally wooded, it has a stream that runs year-round in front of the house,” said Beers in a video featuring his home.

“I loved this property so much that about seven years ago I tore down my old house and rebuilt it.”

‘A place where I could just go and retreat’

Beers, whose hit shows include “Deadliest Catch,” “Monster Garage,” “Storage Wars,” and “Ice Road Truckers,” confesses that money was no object when he set out to build his dream home.

“In show business, it’s chaos. It’s so intense and in your face, and I wanted to create a place where I could just go and retreat,” he said.

“To me, it’s a very Zen place. … I love all the exterior rough beams, the wood,” he said. “It’s very peaceful to me.”

He even “built a little Zen hut down over the stream that’s just incredibly peaceful with waterfalls in front of it.”

Standout estate

The five-bedroom, 6.5-bath, 5,649-square-foot home appears to be in the middle of a forest, but it’s actually within walking distance of the San Fernando Valley’s famous Ventura Boulevard. It’s also a short drive from important arteries like the 405 and the 101 freeways.

Beers said you can hardly hear traffic, and he often sees deer by the pool.

The colorful main house was built from wood and stone and features soaring windows and skylights throughout.

The interiors feature custom built-ins, a generous dining booth off the kitchen, and lighted shelves and cabinets in the primary suite.

The compound includes a guesthouse, which was originally built as an art gallery.

In addition, there’s a guest wing off the main house. It has a private entrance, kitchen, bedroom, bath, and living room.

Whimsical water features

Among the property’s most definitive aspects are its water features. You’ll see them almost everywhere you look.

“When you go around the property, you’ll see plenty of waterfalls, streams. I have a koi pond that goes directly through the floor of the house,” he said.

In and around some of those water features you’ll find the red tentacles.

“It’s like a treasure hunt,” Beers added.

Beers, 70, has produced more than 40 reality TV series for Paramount Syndicated Television, Discovery Channel, National Geographic, History Channel, A&E, and TruTV. He is known for narrating many of the shows he produces.
