Volunteers from Ashton Woods, Starlight Homes, SouthState Bank, Kennesaw State University National Association of Home Builders Student Chapter and Vincent Longo Custom Builders teamed up to complete the first HomeAid Atlanta Care Day of the year.
The group spent Feb. 10 at the site of Ascensa Health Women’s Recovery Residence in Midtown, which serves as a safe place for women in the final phase of addiction recovery before they return to their families and communities.

The volunteers completed $13,000 worth of demolition work ahead of renovations that will be led by HomeAid volunteer Bradley Hall of Hall Design Build and the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association Remodelers Council. The remodeling project will provide updates to the kitchen and bathrooms, as well as a new laundry space and general improvements throughout the home, which house eight to 10 women upon completion.
“The Care Day volunteers did an amazing job working together in tough, dusty conditions,” Starlight Division Manager Bruce Carothers said in a press release. “It was a fun and safe day of demolition. The work we did saved HomeAid critical funds that are needed towards accomplishing the end result of the house for its future residents.”
HomeAid Care Days are volunteer workdays that provide free maintenance and repairs for local homelessness organizations. The nonprofit has 10 Care Days planned for this year, as well as construction projects, its annual Essentials Drive and packing CareKits.
