Singer Katy Perry continues to create sparks in the real estate market. Over her years in Los Angeles, the chart topper has bought and sold multiple properties—and even attempted to snag a monastery.

The “Firework” singer has plenty to glow about. Most recently, after welcoming a daughter with partner Orlando Bloom, she’s decided to shed some real estate and perhaps turn a profit to boot.

Given her impressive property portfolio, we took a deep dive on what the “California Gurl” has bought and sold over the years.

An extra house in Beverly Hills?

Most of us are happy with a fold-out couch when visiting friends.

However, if you’re lucky enough to be BFFs with Perry, your overnight stays are spent in high style. The singer kept a sweet pad not a minute from her main house in Beverly Hills for friends and family who needed a place to stay when in SoCal.

Now perhaps the pop star has reconsidered having two houses in the same neighborhood.

Because two years after she picked up the secondary 90210 home for $7.4 million, it’s back on the market for a little under $8 million. She reportedly made very few changes to the place, so she could eke out a tiny profit.

And any leftover cash could be put toward sprucing up the guest quarters in her main house—which will now be crucial.

The handsome traditional-style home she’s selling is far from what your mind conjures up when you hear “guest cottage.”

The 4,400-square-foot home has four bedrooms and 4.5 baths. It features a chef’s kitchen with breakfast area, luxe master suite, and an additional suite that could be used as an office or a gym. The living room opens to a terrace. The gated property also features a pool, lush lawn, and beautiful gardens.

It’s not a bad way to spend an overnight stay!

Katy Perry’s prime property in the 90210

Just a minute away from her guesthouse up for sale is the pop star’s main residence.

In 2017, she snagged the gated home in an off-market deal for around $18 million. Marketed as “Hamptons modern,” the mansion sits on an acre lot, including a mile-long driveway with massive gates. When it was on the market over a decade ago, the home was described as “the most private estate in Beverly Hills.”

The five-bedroom home features high ceilings and walls of glass that open to manicured gardens

A double-edge infinity pool appears to float above a forest, and a motor court has room for some 20 cars.

The guard-gated community is popular with A-listers, including Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman, Adele, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicole Richie and Joel Madden, Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, and Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem.

A pair of homes in the Hollywood Hills

Perry’s also a fashion icon who launched a namesake label of footwear. And as with shoes, she appears to like buying homes in pairs. In 2013, she made a play for two Los Angeles properties owned by philanthropist Aileen Getty for $11.2 million in an off-market deal.

But after her purchase of her Beverly Hills home in 2017, she placed one of the two Hollywood Hills properties on the market for $9.45 million. It took a couple of years before she landed a buyer.

The gorgeous Mediterranean-style residence on 2.33 acres she had on the market was built in 1954. The 7,400-square-foot, four-bedroom home includes a pool, glass-enclosed gym, and two-story guesthouse. The master suite takes up the entire second floor.

The smaller abode is a 2,916-square-foot contemporary stucco with five bedrooms. It comes with a pool and guesthouse, according to Mansion Global. The secluded set of properties is located on Mulholland Drive, and connects to the popular Runyon Canyon hiking trails.

In 2019 Perry sold both properties to restaurateur Michael Chow, founder of the Mr. Chow restaurant chain. Chow purchased the homes for a total of $12,704,000, with the larger home selling for $9.04 million.

Take her to a nunnery?

Perry was also praying to land a prime piece of real estate formerly used as a convent in the Los Feliz neighborhood. In 2014, she appeared to have struck a deal with the Los Angeles Archdiocese to secure the 8.5-acre property for $14.5 million, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

However, a lengthy court battle ensued about whether it was the nuns or the Archdiocese that had the authority to sell. The nuns hadn’t lived on the property since 2011, according to Mansion Global.

Eventually, Perry seemed to have prevailed. However, for the deal to go through, Perry had to find an alternative space for the local clergy. That appears not to have taken place, and it’s unclear if a deal is still in place.

The Bernard Maybeck–designed estate dates to 1927. In the 1950s, the house was sold to a couple who eventually gifted the property to a Catholic order of nuns. The multistructure compound, apparently expanded in the 1980s, includes a total of 25 bedrooms and 29 bathrooms, a pool, and gardens.

Off Brand, this was a dud

In 2011, the singer and Russell Brand picked up a Hollywood Hills home for $6.5 million. The couple divorced in 2012, after just a year of marriage, and they never occupied the home.

Perry sold the home in 2013 at a million-dollar loss, for $5,565,000, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Known as Park Hill, the seven-bedroom, Spanish-style estate was described as “fortresslike” and “baronial.”

Since Perry parted with the home, it’s had a makeover and become a luxury rental. It’s available to rent for $295,000 a month, or $15,000 a night—with a three-night minimum.
