Some homes are designed to bring the outdoors inside. But there’s one to be built in Sevierville, TN, that will feature an eye-deceiving design.

Slated to be completed by the end of 2023, the cubed and mirrored treehouse not only blends seamlessly with nature, but it also appears to magically disappear amid the trees of the Smoky Mountains. It is the architectural equivalent of an “invisibility cloak,” the listing notes.

Listed for $635,000 in December 2022, the one-of-a-kind design is now pending sale.

“I love all kinds of architecture, but especially love European architecture as it has more edgy designs,” says the home’s designer and developer, Tim Tipton of Tipton Home Designs.

“There are glass houses in Joshua Tree, CA, and one in Arizona, but they do not have the polished, stainless-steel siding that gives it the reflective mirrored look,” he explains.

‘New to the area’

When coming up with the design, Tipton says he was looking to create something bigger than a tiny home. This one will measure 1,152 square feet with two bedrooms and two baths.

“I wanted to do something more modern and wanted to introduce something that would be new to the area without the shock factor,” he explains.

“I liked the simplicity of the design and call it the cubed, mirrored treehouse. I own an architectural design business and have been talking about creating this minimalist design for years. I am trying to not do the norm around here.”

Definitely not the norm, the treehouse style will feature walls of windows with incredible views of the outdoors.

“I design the foundation with steel beams that are friendly to the local environment so you can see the brush below,” he continues. “I look at the lot and see if the design will work with the land. It’s very customized, which is the art of design.”

Copyrighted concept

While he is still waiting on approvals, Tipton hopes to start construction in early spring.

“It will be the first time a two-story mirrored home will be constructed in the U.S. constructed with polished, stainless-steel siding,” he notes. “The siding will be patented, and the design is copyrighted.”

“Tim is staying true to the integrity of the design and not going with full mass production,” says listing agent Natalie Bogusky, of eXp Realty. “It’s really neat and you don’t see that a lot.”

As for inspiration, Tipton says he has always liked the Scandinavian minimalist design.

“There are some wood features inside,” he says. “The home has a clean look with no trim and crisp, straight lines. There are 8-foot doors and 9-foot ceilings. The floor is maintenance-free. The master bedroom upstairs has three walls of windows designed to seamlessly blend with nature.

“We are also incorporating measures to keep bird strikes from happening,” Tipton adds.
