In 1929, a man named Joseph Keen and his wife arrived in New York state and decided to build their very own Cinderella-style castle.

Not long after its completion, the property, dubbed Villa Keen, was sold to one Lloyd Stratton, then president of the Associated Press news service, who’s said to have spent many hours clacking away on his typewriter in the old oak library.

The 1960s welcomed yet another new owner: renowned Broadway producer Robert Wright.

While he was in Hollywood working on “The Carol Burnett Show,” Wright rented out the spacious property to the famous stage couple Shirley Jones and Jack Cassidy.

Jones and Cassidy spent six months in the home with their three boys (including then 10-year-old Shaun Cassidy), while performing in the Broadway show “Maggie Flynn.” During this time, they became convinced the castle was haunted.

Creepy or just creaky?

Although nothing truly sinister ever occurred (at least that we know of), Jones stated in a 1968 interview with the New York Times that the family would regularly hear “funny noises all night long,” including doors opening and closing and “whooshing” sounds.

Whether you believe in ghosts or not, the castle undeniably has the look of a magical place where anything could happen.
