Volunteers from homebuilder JW Collection on Oct. 7 joined HomeAid Atlanta to carry out improvements at the Cherokee County Homeless Veterans Program.
During the Care Day, the volunteers tore down an exterior deck, dug a French drain, removed unwanted indoor shelving, trimmed trees and shrubs and performed other landscaping work around the facility. HomeAid estimates the work led to more than $9,000 in maintenance costs savings ahead of a large remodeling project that HomeAid and the nonprofit are carrying out to provide beds for 35 male veterans experiencing homelessness.
The Cherokee County Homeless Veterans Program provides veterans help with food, housing, clothing, Veterans Affairs claims, home of record and other support.
HomeAid Atlanta said JW Collection CEO John Wieland is a longtime supporter who served as HomeAid Atlanta’s first-ever builder captain for the Atlanta Union Mission’s Second Mile Home in 2004 and led the building of My House a few years later.
“I just want to say that I’m excited to be here with the team today,” Wieland said in a release. “We have had a long relationship with HomeAid because of all of the good work they do.”
