CARROLL president/investment chief leaves firm, replacements named

Atlanta real estate firm CARROLL promoted two executives following the exit of President and CIO Josh Champion, who left the company after 10 years.

COO David Perez is now president and COO, while Executive Vice President of Investments Bret Richards is the new CIO.

Perez joined CARROLL as COO in 2017. Since then, he has helped steer the multifamily investment company through its recent growth spurt. It has grown 50% recently and now has $8 billion in assets under management and has completed $20 billion in transaction volume with more than 200 acquisitions and almost 140 dispositions.

Richards joined CARROLL in 2021 after 20 years managing investments at Equity Residential and Blackstone/LivCor.

“David and Brett have been instrumental to the growth and success CARROLL has experienced as a company,” founder and CEO Patrick Carroll said in a press release. “From navigating the unknowns of the past two years to executing our strategy en route to record transactions and new market growth, David and Brett have helped elevate CARROLL to its current position — all while embodying the values that we strive for as a national organization.”
