Following his retirement from the Washington Nationals, Ryan Zimmerman is making real estate moves.

Property records show that the former slugger paid $11 million for a brand-new build in McLean, VA.

The purchase comes after the All-Star listed his longtime home in Great Falls, VA, in April for $8.5 million.

“House move week. Last car packed and about to pull out,” Zimmerman shared on Instagram, alongside a photo of a car packed to the gills. “For all those asking, moving closer in to DC! Don’t worry. Can’t get rid of me yet!”

New home base

The new residence is located close to CIA headquarters, and Zimmerman can catch up with his former teammate, Nationals pitcher Stephen Strasburg, who lives down the road.

Measuring 20,000 square feet, the megamansion features seven bedrooms and 13 bathrooms.

Though interior photos are unavailable, the exterior images show a stately home.

It’s located on Federal Hill, an area that historically linked Virginia and DC.

The property “embraces its 19th-century heritage with a nod to the most luxurious amenities and features of a modern 21st-century residence,” the listing states.

Highlights include a main entry hall, chef’s kitchen, catering kitchen, and great room overlooking the pool and gardens.

An entire wing of the house is devoted to the grand primary suite, which features a sitting room with a fireplace, a coffee bar, and two large dressing rooms. The bathroom has a fireplace, soaking tub, and steam shower.

On the third level, there’s a ballroom, bar, and cigar room. An elevator services all levels of the estate. The lower level houses a spa center with a massage room, steam room, sauna, and gym.

Other amenities include a home theater, billiard room, and entertaining room, all on the lower level.

The 1.4-acre grounds showcase a pool, spa, entertaining pavilion, and putting green.

In addition, a restored 18th-century carriage house offers space for an office or guest quarters.

Real estate win

Zimmerman’s previous home had similar resort vibes.

He and his wife purchased the 5-acre property in 2012 for $3.9 million. Located in Falls Church, VA, the 13,232-square-foot, six-bedroom estate features a gym, wine cellar, and home theater.

The grounds feature terraces, gardens, a pool, and a koi pond. There’s also a two-bedroom pool house, man cave, and kids’ play house.

The home was listed in April for $8.5 million, then came off the market in June.

Zimmerman, 37, has spent much of his life in Virginia. After attending high school in Virginia Beach, he played college ball at the University of Virginia. Nicknamed “Mr. National,” Zimmerman spent his entire career with the Nats, which included the World Series win in 2019. The two-time All-Star retired in 2021.
