Anthony Edwards—best known for playing “Goose” in “Top Gun” and Dr. Mark Greene on “ER”—is selling his condo on New York City’s Upper East Side. The actor purchased the condo in 2015, and is now ready to part with his penthouse unit.

Penthouse South in the Phillip House building measures approximately 2,700 square feet and is on the market for $7.65 million.

“His kids are all graduated from high school, so he no longer needs to be on the Upper East Side. It’s time to downsize now that everybody’s out of the house,” says the co-listing agent Elizabeth Van Hiel. “He’s looking to move more downtown in the city.”

Edwards’ apartment has a brief, but interesting, history.

“The building itself was built in 1927, but the apartment was just kind of plopped right on top of the building,” explains the co-listing agent, Aaron Allen.

“Because it’s brand-new construction just on top of the old building, it has really high ceilings, central air, recessed lighting, and huge, brand-new windows.”

Allen explains the builder wasn’t limited by the constraints on window size that used to be enforced in many of the city’s older buildings, and opted to put in the largest windows possible, which bring in tons of light.

“It’s so beautiful. The light is incredible, and it feels very homey and bright and airy. The light makes it so special,” Van Hiel says.

In addition to the height of the ceilings, another highlight is the outdoor space.

“It has over 1,250 square feet of outdoor space across three different terraces,” Allen says. “There’s not a ton of inventory on the Upper East Side with this amount of outdoor space.”

Allen says Edwards likes to cook outside and used the western-facing terrace on the first floor for his grill.

“The first-floor bedroom has access to the west terrace,” Van Hiel explains. “The master bedroom has access to a smaller terrace on the west side and then a large terrace on the east side. It’s really nice for indoor and outdoor living.”

The second floor also has a study and media room that could be used as another bedroom.

The kitchen features a large Belgian bluestone countertop, with seating for four people.

The cabinets have a high-gloss finish, and all the appliances are high-end, including a Sub-Zero refrigerator and wine fridge, a Wolf six-burner stove, and two wood-paneled Miele dishwashers.

“The kitchen is kind of like a whole separate room off of the living room and dining room,” Allen explains.

“It has a very large window, so you can get natural light into the kitchen. It’s a really nice kitchen and quite large, so for someone who likes to cook a lot, it’s quite comfortable.”

Van Hiel told us that Edwards likes to cook, and that he really enjoys the kitchen layout.

“One nice thing about the kitchen, and the apartment in general, is the design is a nice mix of traditional and modern, which fits in with the neighborhood. All of the materials that were used work for the building and the area,” Allen explains.

“You’ll see the kitchen has the white lacquer cabinetry, which is very modern and hip. And then some of the materials, like the countertops and the bottom cabinets, are a little bit more traditional, so it’s a good mix.”

The condo also has a laundry room with room for a full-sized washer and dryer. A private storage unit is available in the building’s basement.

The building’s other amenities include another terrace, a club room, a fitness center, a game room, a playroom, a music practice room, bike storage, a 24-hour doorman, and an on-site building manager.

This is one of two penthouses currently available in this building. The other, Penthouse North, is about 2,800 square feet and is listed for $9.2 million.
