A wild home on the Jersey Shore is no run-of-the-mill beach house.

Giving a wide berth to calm, coastal style, with natural textures and light colors, the residence on North Haverford Avenue in Margate, NJ, opts instead for total maximalism.

Just a couple of blocks from the beach, it features a distinctive blue-and-white exterior and interiors packed with chrome, mirrors, marble, and crystal.

“The typical beach house has a laid-back decor. This is not laid-back. This is pretty intense decor,” says the listing agent, Joseph Gioia with Re/Max, noting the owner’s unique taste. “It’s jazzed up to the max.”

The 2,368-square-foot home went up for sale in early October for $1,625,000. It’s now off-market, with no evidence of a sale in process, but the decor deserves a deep dive.

“We’re trying to sell this property with all the furniture—and sometimes that’s a challenge. Every room in the house is different and almost overwhelming,” he says. “It’s the most different house I’ve ever walked into. Not everyone’s going to have this taste.”

The person who does buy the home will be able to keep everything in it. Everything. All the shine and all the glitz.

Gioia says all the fixtures and furnishings are high-end, including a chandelier that cost approximately $50,000. That particular light fixture, though, is one of the few items in the home that isn’t part of the sale.

Built in 1973, the home has been in the same family for years, with a son taking it over from his mother.

“I’m assuming he inherited it when his mother passed away, and then he just totally redid the whole property, inside and out,” Gioia says.

To spice up the approach to the house, she adds, there are mannequins of former presidents Barrack Obama and Donald Trump, together with a big portrait of President Biden.

The home spans three levels, and Gioia says the five bedrooms share the general design theme of the house, although two are a little more sedate.

One bedroom is on the main level, two are on the middle level, and the remaining two are on the upper level. One of the bedrooms, currently configured as a gym, comes complete with chrome weights.

The detached garage, a rarity for the area, also comes with a full bathroom.

“It’s the ultimate party house,” Gioia says, noting that the owner was quite the entertainer. “You can imagine a little champagne and wine flowing.”

In the backyard are a bar and a deck.

Gioia says the list price is aggressive for the area because it includes the furnishings. Buying it and redecorating is a possibility, but it would be a costly one.

“At this price, how much more do you want to put into it? Renovations would be expensive. We’re talking about walls, floor-to-ceiling mirrors, chrome all over, lights in the steps,” he says.

There have been offers, but at a lower price than the seller is willing to accept.

“We’re going to get a buyer who wants this and is willing to pay for it. It just may not come real soon,” Gioia says. “It’s going to take a while to find someone that wants to pay that kind of money and wants this decor.”
